I know, cheap is relative but have any of you stayed in the garden/tennis court rooms? Are they ok? Are there some rooms that are better than others? Is there anything to ask for in particular?

Actually, the Tennis Garden rooms that are just behind the pool are some of the most beautiful and spacious rooms at Caneel. They have only distant water views but they have stone patios and are very nice. We stayed in the lowest category, which are not the ones I mentioned, but they are just beside them. They were OK too. They are the ones that have the upper and lower units but I would not stay in the lower units as I like having the raised deck. The tram stopped just beyound our door and the location was very convenient. You could walk right down the path beside the tennis couts or walk along the road beside the Equator .

Thanks guys, that's really good to hear. I was reading a ton of posts on Trip Advisor and everyone there was talking about their oceanfront/view rooms. :? It's good to hear there's not a difference in the actual rooms.

I read somewhere to ask for a second story corner room (which I've done). Sounds like that was a good choice! Thanks!

I've actually had that impression on a lot of boards. To be quite honest, we looked into villas but there are just the two of us going on this trip. Because of that, the price difference between the two options wasn't great (in some cases, the villa was more). If it's all the same, I'd rather have someone make my bed. :P

We usually do Caneel, Gallows Pt or Secret Harbor for a few days alone before we meet a larger group for a villa rental. We save some $$ on the car rental, we get a lot of beach time by ourselves, and we can schedule some short trips to beaches, restaraunts and other activities that the others may not want to do.
When you have newbies joining you at a villa, nomatter what you plan before the vacation, they seem to get stuck in"villa gravity" and if you are only going for a week it really cuts into our "sand gravity" time.
So with Caneel and then a villa, we enjoy the best of both worlds.
