Oh what a (fort)night! October 2011 Trip Report Part VII

First off, I apologize for the lateness of this report - there were a number of things that conspired against finishing this series in a timely manner, but I hope that it's "better late than never"!

After two days in a row of being out of the water, our gills were starting to dry out, so we'd decided that today we'd make the long (by STJ standards) drive across the island to spend the day at Little Lameshure.
We set up at the left end of the beach, and as soon as we got everything in place we headed out into the bay to snorkel.
A little juvenile angelfish caught our eyes, and when we dove down to look under the rock where it was hiding we spotted the beautiful scourge of the Caribbean!
After a nice long snorkel, Leslie and I made our way back to our encampment on the beach. Barb and Chet had come in a little earlier and were already enjoying the good life!
We hung out, drip dried, munched on the sandwiches and fruit we'd packed, and just spent a little time taking in the beauty of the day and of the island.
But it didn't take too long for the itch to get back into the water to return. Barb decided that her book was too interesting and/or her spot in the shade too comfortable, so she opted to hang out and keep watch over our stuff while the rest of us took a little hike along the Yawzi Point Trail ( a first for Leslie and me!).
We made our way all of the way out to the end of the point, but the rock scramble down to the water on the Little Lameshure side didn't look like something Leslie wanted to do, in deference to her bad knee, so we backtracked a little bit and found a little cove with a much easier entry on the Great Lameshure side, and we geared up to get in the water there. Except Leslie realized that her snorkel had come off of her mask. We scrambled back up the bank and slowly retraced our steps back to the point, carefully looking for places where the grass and bushes may have snagged the snorkel, but couldn't find it. We were just about resigned to going back the whole length of the trail to look for it when Chet had a brilliant suggestion: Since we'd been taking pictures periodically along the way, why not look at them on the camera monitor to see if we could see just when Leslie's snorkel was not in the picture - another plus for digital cameras! The snorkel was present in every picture, even the one taken out at the point. Which meant that either we had failed to see it on our recent search, or that it had fallen off back at where we entered the water. Sure enough, when we got back there, there it was, on the bottom in about three feet of water. Good thing there wasn't a strong outgoing tide just then!
This is the picture that let us know that Leslie still had her snorkel at the end of the hike.
We entered the water and swam out to and around the point to Little Lameshure. The point was in fairly deep water, with some dramatic underwater geography - this would be a great dive site. We saw some great creatures while we worked our way back to the beach at Little Lameshure.
As we headed back we decided to *finally* stop at The Tourist Trap for an early(ish) dinner. I had the world famous Lobster Roll and Drink Right, Keep Left. If I had been better prepared for their cash only policy I'm willing to bet we would have had more and stayed longer, but it was still very good, and we'll be back!
We then made the long drive back "home" to Allesandra, and finished rinsing the gear and putting our stuff away just in time to view a cloud filled sunset to conclude the day.
