San Juan hotel question

I am sure I will get some tsk tsks for asking this but so be it. If we fly into SJU the night before, we will literally be in the hotel room for 4 - 5 hours before having to catch our 8:30 am flight to STJ. The only hotel in the airport is the Best Western and their max occupancy is 4 and there are 5 in our family. Since it would be so much more convenient not to have to get a cab to isla verde, I was considering just sneaking my 6 year old in. Has anyone ever done this before? I know we could always get another room but to pay an extra $200 for a few hours?

Though actually the isla verde hotels are cheaper and I guess since it's only 1 - 2 miles from the airport it shouldnt take that long?

They would have no idea. I would do it
Edit: But the rooms are small, like prison cells in a way. My kids call it Hotel Guantanamo Bay.

Thanks for your advice
For a few hours I don't care if they are small as long as there are beds and a shower and it is clean!
You just walk to the hotel after you get your bags correct? I mean, it is literally in/attached to the airport?

Bear in mind you might be leaving security and must re-enter in the morning. I realize the alternative of staying in the terminal is not pleasant either but the 4-5 hours you think you have can quickly turn into 2-3.

Best Western at the airport worked great for us! Woke up, rolled through security and right on the plane for a 7 a.m. flight to STT! Loved getting to ST. John in the morning!

Good to know Colleen! And Chris..we are actually considering just sleeping in the terminal! Would much rather spend that money on a dinner out in STJ! I had factored in lugagge and security when figuring that we'd get 4 hours of sleep. But if we are all working out of one bathroom that cuts it down even more. Question though, we arrive at close to midnight and by the time we de-plane and get our luggage, it will be 1:00. Can we check our luggage that early for a 8:30 am flight? that way we could take our naps at our morning terminal. if not, where is the best place to camp out for a few hours?

And I did book flights last night. We arrive early and leave very early so at least will avoid some of the St. Thomas traffic.
