Hello forumites,
we typically are stj oct/nov travellers, but a dear friend is turning 50 and is considering going to stj for her bday. She is thinking about June, what can she expect besides it being hotter?

We normally go in June. I can't speak for temperature difference as we have never been in November but the yearly temperature variance is listed as 5 degrees max so the bigger difference might be an up tick in humidity. I know October is the down time and November is the early ramp up to the high season so you might note more restaurants are open. Probably a little more travelers but no where near the high season. Parking is never a problem. The nice thing in June is the weekly events leading up to the July 4th celebration. They include music festivals, food & craft carnivals, etc.
My favorite is the Pan Jam but that tends to be late May early June.

In June there's less merchandise in stores but everything is less crowded.

Same boat as Chris as I've never NOT been to STJ in June...so take this for what it's worth....being from Texas, it's typically cooler on STJ than it is in Dallas by a few degrees anyway and since we don't wear anything but shorts, swimsuits and Tees all week, we don't really notice the heat that others might.

Also, we always rent a villa with A/C in the bedrooms...as long as you can get a great night's sleep and have at least one room to cool off in, I think you'll be in good shape.

Otherwise, the week sort of becomes a game of hopscotching to your next cool down zone...whether that's getting in the water at the beach (or villa pool), jumping in your car with windows down or even stopping by a restaurant or shop that has great A/C (Deli Groto and STJ Tap Room are great).

It's easier to embrace the heat if you can break it up.

We have been in June everytime except for 2..once in August and once in April...I prefer going June...and always try and plan our trips then..The August one was a rescheduled one..and the April one was a spur of the minute thing..I didnt think June was any hotter than August was...but definetly warmer than April...I didnt snorkel much at all..I like the fact that most of the rain has gone by then...
And I cant think of a better place to turn 50..hehe

I'll second what my fellow Texans have said. We've only been in June (and overlap into early July), and will be there again this June.

Didn't have anything to compare temps to, but didn't think of it as hot. Cooler than home, without being too cool to stay in the water all day!

Not too many places where you have to plan ahead with dinner reservations.

Never had any parking issues, except weekends at Hawksnest...so you just don't do that!

Typically the rain is gone...2010 that was not the case, but it didn't ruin the trip or anything.

I've traveled to St John in November and June and there are a few interesting differences.

In June the flamboyant trees are in bloom. They aren't in bloom in November so it's a treat to see the trees so colorful and dotting the island.

In June the laughing gulls are on the island. They get to be a nusiance once in a while. Watch your food on the beach. They get very bold and try to take away food that is out.

In June the days are longer so you get more beach time. That's always a treat.

I have been in June and November.

The water temps are about the same but we've had really rough water in November, it's always been calm in June. I actually vowed to never return in November because the water was just too rough for me. I have some scars on my legs to remind me of being pummeled into rocks in November.

The other weird thing about November was that the gulls weren't on the beach, I did miss them. We normally go in June/July/August when they are present so the beach felt empty without them there.

We primarily go in high season (Feb/March) but have been in December, Jan - Apr as well as June - which was our first trip.

June is a great time to go. Mostly because there is never a bad time to go to St John. But also, its less crowded than high season but didn't seem more rainy or muggy than earlier in the year. And most every restaurant will be open. If you've been in October you probably found that some places were closed for a while.

If you are still hesitant, I would be happy to celebrate for you friend in your stead!

June is when we prefer to go!

Love June! Lots of blooms, generally good weather. Water is nice... and calm. I am not a croud person and June delivers. If there is a rain sometimes the water can seem a little cool, at least it did to me. I do want to try October some time, but I really like June! Book it and get it on the calendar.

We own a timeshare in June and love that time of the year, warm air and water temps but not too hot like August/Sept. Just as others have said more color because of the flowers. Expect more families towards the end of June as the kids are now out of school, so expect more kids on the beaches and at restaurants. Good luck

We find the water cool in June than in October/November. But, not enough to keep us away!
