Passport Question

I just noticed that my 7 year old son's passport expires on February 15, 2012. We plan on going to the BVI's on the 29th of January. Do you think they will give me a hard time at Customs?
I heard recently of people having trouble with their passports because they were expiring within six weeks of travel and were being denied.
Thanks for any advice.

Just bring a birth certificate along with you as well and you'll likely be fine. It's too late to renew it so you're stuck with it.

I was told to bring a copy of the renewal application, provided you are renewing it.

My husband had a couple months (3 or 4) left when we stayed on VG and our rental agent told us not to risk it, to get it renewed.
Day trips may be viewed differently by C&I but I would definately check with your charter captain for their opinion. If you are going on the ferry, I suppose the worst that could happen is that your son would be denied entry.

If you live close to Boston or another passport office, you might have time to renew it. I doubt that the renewal form will help much. You have tosend the expiring passport in witht he application.

Thanks everybody!
I called Steve from Ocean Runner who we are renting the boat from and he said just to bring his birth certificate along with his passport. He said its not so much the BVI's that would give us a hard time--it's more coming back through Customs on STJ but thinks it will be fine with both.
I didn't realize you have to send the old passport back with the application so getting a new one will have to wait.
Thanks again!!
