So John was nice enough to surprise me with a trip to St. John for a Christmas gift. The only issue is that he booked our plane tickets to arrive to STT two days before our St. John rental and car pickup starts. Not a problem really, we can extend where we are already staying, or go to Caneel for those nights, both places have availbility.

But then, I started thinking. What if we went to Anegada instead for those two nights? For those of you who have been, it is worth it to travel over there for just two nights? It looks gorgeous but this is kind of last minute so I am thinking everything might be booked anyway. I don't want to start doing tons of inquiries until somebody with experience tells me whether it's worth it for such a short time period.

If you're looking for something totally different, 2 days on Anegada might be the ticket. I like Anegada, having been there twice...but I would not want to stay longer than a few days. Call me crazy, but it's just a little too much nothinness for me. Having said that, we LOVE hanging at Lloblolly Beach Bar with Ceon and Charly....and there's nobody more genuine than Miss Belle at Cow Wreck. Rent a car from Dean and Henny (lovely lovely people) and drive the sand roads to noplace trying your luck with the flamingos.

I love Anegada and I think 2 days is perfect. It does get boring after that, if you ask me.

If it works for your dates, do it! You will be so happy that you did. It is so unlike STJ or any of the other BVI. Nice, genuine people, SUPER laid back, quiet, and peaceful.

Honestly I'd go with Caneel over Anegada any day. Never handling your bags until you arrive in your room at Caneel and arriving on STJ on the Caneel ferry sounds too good to pass up.

I'd skip Anegada and go to Caneel. No question.

Travel Talk On Line (TTOL) has a BVI forum that will give you tons on info about Anegada. The forum sailing-heavy but Anegada is a popular stop and there is at least one person who lives on Anegada that posts regularly.

Based on our 2008 trip reports, it would make sense that chrisn and I agree it’s a neat idea to get over to Anegada and that 2-3 nights is ideal.
And maybe since you’ve been there/done that extra nights thing with Caneel multiple times, maybe you are ready for opposite of that experience

That said, the short planning logistics could be tough (maybe consider Virgin Gorda as Plan B?).

Guavaberry Springbay on VG is FANTASTIC...and perfect for a few extra days. If you haven't been...I very highly recommend it! We'll be there for 5 nights before moving on to STJ this Summer!

Getting there would be a bit of an adventure. It could either cost more money or take more time than you'd like to invest---but the value of adventures isn't measured in money or time. Here's a link to more ideas about transport:

We haven't been to Anegada. When we stayed on VG we planned to go there for a day, or possibly a night, but once we actually got to VG, we were happy to just stay there. As mentioned, VG wouldn't be a bad second option at all. Easier to get to and from and certainly a very wonderful place to spend a couple of days or weeks or months. We also stayed at Guavaberry and were way more than satisfied. Fischer's Cove would be a second choice if Guavaberry was full. TTOL was where we got most of our info.

so we did it...with 2 kids in tow! We took a charter flight after arriving in STT...it was 500 bucks for the flight...and we stayed at cowwreck... for 2 nights and then took the friday 5pm ferry to tortola for the night (marias by the sea)...then spent th day on jost at soggy dollar...took the ferry to st john . it was $$$$ but a great way to get "everything in"....then spent a week on st. john. You can totally do it....

lots of fun....and a totally "back in time" sort of feeling!

We did a similar itinerary in 2009, staying on Anegada for two nights. Stayed at Neptune's Treasure. Definitely worth it.

But I don't think you can get to Anegada the same day as you arrive in STT, unless you arrive really early. I think you'll have to "ferry connect" through Roadtown.

We stayed overnight at Maria's in Roadtown, then ferried over to Anegada the next morning. After staying at NT for two nights, our return trip was done in one day. Ferried back to Roadtown, caught a cab to West End, then ferried to STJ.

Still remember dropping off our rental car on Anegada. Owner told us to just leave it near the ferry dock w/ the keys in it.
