I have a confession!!

This morning when I got up and went to the drawer in the kitchen with all our daily meds, I accidently took my daughters (ADHD daughter) Concerta instead of my blood pressure medication. They look very similar.
It is timed released, so I am in the thick of things right now.

It's like Ritalin. I'm so wired and jittery I'm about to burst. I haven't had a bite to eat all day and I don't think I will. I can't believe I give this cr**p to my daughter to calm her down. I feel like the worst mother. For all you college kids that buy this stuff on the street to stay up and study, your playing with fire.

Do any of you have kids that are on these meds? She can not go to school without this stuff. I hate giving it to her, but it really calms her down. I don't know how it works, but it works for her. I am a nervous wreck, about to have a heart attack. My poor husband says "not again!!!!"

I may be posting stupid topics til 4:00 in the morning. So sorry. I'm really quite normal. But not on this stuff. I moved it to another drawer. Never again.

My daughter is on Adderall and has been since 2nd grade, she would not be the good student that she is without it! You are not ADHD so it doesnt work for you like it does your daughter. What calms them down and helps them focus, makes us hyper and jittery. Your not a bad mom for giving it to her! I think maybe if you ate something you would feel better!
Hope you feel better soon! :D

cypressgirl,
Please don't beat yourself up....you have been giving your daughter this medication because you want to do the right thing for her. You have listened to the advice of a medical professional....a person whom I assume you trust. If you are second guessing the medication, then make an appointment to discuss alternative treatment. I'm almost certain that if you decide to discontinue, it will need to be done gradually, rather than all at once. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers....mia

I agree with Betty. Try eating something. Mine takes concerta too. I actually really could use it but she needs it more so there is no way i would take hers!

I ned to get with my Doctor about something for myself! Some days focus is not a word in my vocabulary!

I know all the medical reasons why it works for her and not for most "normal" people, but have any of you normals ever tried this stuff. I can't even describe how awful it makes me feel. I don't like that wired feeling at all. I'd be more of a pot head than a coke head, not that I am either one. I am rambling at this point and gritting my teeth and watching Keith Urban on GAC and lovin' it.

See you later.....Deb

I saw a news story on this once: mothers that purposely take their child's Ritalin (and the like) so they can keep up with their day and be "Super Mom." Scary. I hope you feel better soon!

cypressgirl,

Hope you were able to get a good night's sleep! I can only imagine what you were going through. That's obviously the diference in blood chemistry between people. My alergies are killing me this morning, so to the medicine cabinet I went for my antihistamine. I was pretty careful to make sure I got the right bottle!!!!

Hang in there!
