I am having a heck of a time finding some sort of sandals for my almost 12 year old son. He is very picky, has to be COOL and thinks everything is "geeky". He is into the skateboarder look with longer hair and skateboard shoes. He can't wear the sensible brown sandals with straps anymore and we can't find flip-flops that he likes.
The problem is that he is a size 5-6 Youth (in-between boy's and men's) and there aren't a lot of shoes out there that are this size.
Does anyone know of any website that may have something or do you have sons who have found something acceptable?

Now i do not have boys as you know but my nephew wear's the slip on addidas sandle, lots of sports kids where them, even my daughter used to wear them. My nephew also wears Tevas, they would be good for hiking or anything where he has to move quickly and they are waterproof. Check out these

Ya wanna see something scary, it's me at 44 in a skate park. I was pretty darn good in the pools back in the 70s. Now? Recipe for a broken hip. I go for the low impact sports. I was judging at the first round of the National Homebrew Competition this weekend - more my speed.

If you have an REI near you, they have a good variety of shoes (kid and adult) and their staff people have always been helpful when I have a question. I've had great luck with Keen sandals (Newport or Newport H2.) They have a sturdy sole that comes up to protect the toe area. They're great for hiking, and they can be rinsed out at night and will usually be dry by morning -- a must for stinky boy feet! I don't know if they're considered cool or not, but lots of kids around here wear them.

I vote for Flip-Flops....Reefs are a good choice for that age and he'll be in style..

Rick, you rode the pools! COOL! I grew up in Cali during the skateboard craze. My sister and I were reminiscing while watching Lords of Dogtown last week. That was so our life! Love the Vans!

Anywho, I have a little man who thinks he's the cool skate/surfer long hair, surfer shorts etc. He took a pair of Tevas and 2 pairs of flip flops. I do recommend taking a pair of sturdier (but still free feeling) along with the loaf shoes.

For cryin' out loud, he's TWELVE, not TWO!

Let HIM decide what to wear. Whatever he wears at home in the summer will be just fine.

By the way, "sensible brown sandals with straps" NEVER were sensible, unless of course, they were worn with argyle socks.

If you are near an LL Bean they have some great durable kids shoes. My daughter is just about 5 so not quite the same w/ the need to be cool, but I also find pretty good stuff at Target!
