Ok this post is to see if any of you ladies travel to STJ by yourself? (Married or single..just traveling alone).
I am thinking about this and would love any suggestions of a safe place to stay, tips, other suggestions, reassurance, etc..
Sometimes...a girl just feels like getting away...Would you do it?

In a heartbeat!
I would stay in Cruz Bay in a complex where you might have the opportunity to meet other people.
I would sit at the bar and eat dinner
I would volunteer at the ACC
I would book a boat trip on one of the larger boats early in my trip so I could meet people
I would read a cajillion books

I have not done it, but I totally would do it.
I went with just my sister-in-law in November and met a ton of people. I would do it alone in a heartbeat. I agree about staying in Cruz Bay at a complexe. We stayed at Lavender Hill and it was perfect. Eating at the bar is also great way to make lots of new friends.
Go for it, shoot I may join you..

I would definitely do it.. but never could, because my husband would never let me... he would be soooo mad if I went without him! He loves it as much as I do!

I have done it and I am doing it again for 15 days next summer. I love St John and few family members including my hubby "get it'. I always rent a villa usually in Chocolate Hole for part of the time and stay at Caneel for part of the time and I always feel safe. There are some down sides to be considered:
I can't go to really remote beaches because I love to snorkel and I know it is foolhardy to snorkel alone.
The nights can be lonely eventhough I love just sitting on the deck and watching the sunset it is more fun to go into town and meet people.
But I am in my favorite place on earth so no matter what it is worth it.

I went by myself for 5 nights last year. I had time between jobs and my husband didn't. Started planning to visit family in Florida, but somehow ended up on St. John:)
Stayed in a unit at Grande Bay. Did not rent a car.
Taxi'ed to the beaches, ate all meals out - bar, table, didn't matter.
Felt totally safe and would do it again.

I would totally do it! Stay walking distance to Cruz Bay and skip the rental car. My next trip will probably be just myself

I went by myself last year. Stayed in a B & B in Cruz Bay. Loved being able to wander around town and meet people. Rented a car for one day so I could get over to Coral Bay and visit Mr. Benjamin. Did the Eco-Tour kayak-hike-snorkel so I could snorkel and not be alone. Had a chilhood friend fly in from Florida for a few days so I wasn't totaly alone but felt quite comfortable even when I was.
Hoping to do it again in May or June for my 60th, but can only afford to stay at Maho. Husband is not interested in the Island and we couldn't afford both of us going anyway. If I have to sleep in a tent-cottage just to be on my beloved Island, so be it!
I say Go For It!

I have done it a couple of times.I love it because St John is so relaxing and sometimes lets face it friends and family can get on your nerves on vacation.(or maybe it's just mine lol) I have stayed at Grande Bay and Serendip alone. I never felt unsafe but I was always cautious of my surroundings. I did rent a car because I wanted to be able to go wherever I wanted and not have a time limit. If anyone every questioned me about being alone I would just tell them that my friend/hubby was at the condo sick. When I went last December I was 5 months pregnant with twins and lucky that my hubby let me go!! He knew I wouldn't be back for a couple years and knows how much I love the island.
People were very friendly and helpful. You should definately do it!!!

I almost did it this comins spring and I would consider it for sure. I would dive, snorkel, visit the beaches early and walk them back and forth, take lots of picutres and stop at every overlook more than once. I would stay in Cruz Bay where there are people but still rent a car of course. There are a few people that I know that live there so I would try to hang out with them if possible. If I can afford it I really might do it some day.

This has got me thinking... I always do solo trips to Key West and the Keys, but St John would be an ulitimate adventure alone.. I'm afraid I may not come home....
