Manta Rays at Maho Bay

When I heard reports that people were seeing a manta ray at Maho I was very skeptical. Sting rays, eagle rays, but manta rays?

That is until we went snorkeling there last week and saw two! I was only able to get two photos. They were pretty fast.
Here is a link to my blog with the pictures.

I always imagine manta rays to be pretty large. Was this one pretty large, or still pretty young? In comparison to the sting rays we commonly see near St. John how did the two you saw compare?
I'm so happy you were able to photograph it, cool.

The single one we saw the first part of November was 6-8 feet across. Sounds like the couple Dan just saw might have been bigger. Possible they are same ones? I know they get bigger, 20 plus feet. Maybe juveniles?

Seeing the manta ray underwater they appeared to be about 6 to 10 feet from wing tip to wing tip. It's hard to tell underwater and they were movin pretty fast.
It was about 10 days ago at Maho when we saw them.

Pictures are on my blog.

It was amazing. I had read some posts on here regarding people seeing the manta prior to my trip so when I went to Maho I was on the lookout for just such a sighting to confirm that they really did visit these waters. I was very fortunate for sure..
