STJ or Water Island

So we visited Water Island a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with it. Our cruise ship was docked at Crown Bay, so we took the ferry over and hung out at Honeymoon Beach.
Now I know that STJ has almost no people, but Water Island really has No people.
We are in the beginnings of planning our next trip to the USVI and trying to decided which Island. STJ or Water Island.
My only concern is about snorkeling. I want the best access to snorkeling that we can get, being the new & addicted snorkelers that we are now!!
So for those in the Know, what are your views on this? Will we be disappointed at the lack of snorkeling on Water Island or is there tons of it??
Thnx!!

I don't know about Water Island but STJ has some of, if not the best, snorkeling in the islands, IMHO! 2 places not 2 miss on STJ is salt pond bay, and waterlemon cay.
Salt pond has many tropical fish, the occasional turtle, small squid in schools, and we even were blessed to see a Caribbean cousin of a southern flounder!
Waterlemon cay is a 30 minute easy hike but worth it! While we there we saw barracuda, a nurse shark, turtles, and various tropical fish. But the "star" of the trip was literally the star fish, the size of a large dinner plate!
And if you have a third day, Vye's beach is a great snorkel trip as well. Tell Vye hello, and be sure to buy one of her turnovers, sit back and enjoy it under her oak tree!
Man I miss the islands!!!

ILoveTheIslands - Thnx and I agree, the snorkeling is Fantastic on STJ - we spent 10 days there over this past Christmas. We loved both Salt Pond and Waterlemon - and at Waterlemon we saw those Huge starfish. Man, what a thrill that was. Awesome!!
Now, having just spent some time on Water Island, with another couple, we are thinking about a couple of weeks there for both our families. But I'm not sure I'll be able to get my snorkeling fix in there like I can on STJ. That is my only worry. I mean, if I'm going, then I'm snorkeling every dang day. Ha!!
Thnx for your help!!

I know what you mean. I'm in the same boat... Going to Jamaica in August, and I hear the snorkeling is is few and far between.
