Cool shots. Love the school of jacks. Good pic of the eagle ray, and is distinctly different from the Manta that was cruising around the day we were there.

We heard that people had seen a manta the day before and were surprised to see the eagle ray. It looked like he was about 4 feet tip to tip.

Yet to see an eagle.

Can't really tell from the photos, but does the eagle ray have a tail?
When were you there?

Yes, he had a short appendage I took to be a tail but it was much less than I expected. Google "spotted eagle ray" and you get lots of images showing the tail.

Eagle rays have a very long tail. I saw one at Francis that was as long as a car! They also have a large distinctive head, kind of like a penguin head (my wife's opinion).

That's what I thought. All the Images I've seen show them with very very long tails.

The eagle rays I have seen have a tail 2 or 3 times as long as their bodies.

Did you notice the chunk taken from one of his "wings". Maybe his tail fell victim as well. Love the pics. That's more activity at Maho then I have ever seen. I'm very envious of the experience.

The school of jacks was the most amazing experience. They passed me while I was trying to clear a fogged lens on the camera and couldn't shoot. They overtook my wife from behind and totally startled her! I was bemoaning my bad luck when 5 minutes later they made a return pass. Joy! No fog! Best pics of the day!
