Steve and I were talking the other night about the coldest it can and has gotten in STJ and I wondered what the coldest it's been when people were visiting Or what the locals remember the coldest temps to be? Gotta see if I need flannel jammies when we move!

Back in 1998 or 1999, it dropped into the 60's one night. It was so frigging cold and one of the only times I wore jeans, socks, and a sweatshirt all at the same time!

The latest edition of the Settler's Handbook says the the lowest record temperature was 57 degrees. The highest temp recorded was 99.

I was just there and was in one of the shops in Mongoose. I remarked about the amount of long sleeved things they had there. I assumed it was mostly purchased by visitors to take back home. The girl working there told me that actually a lot was purchased by locals- after a few years on island, an overcast day in the low 70's can get pretty chilly! We actually saw it too- we had a few rainy days and saw plenty of locals in jeans and windbreakers. I am sure your body gets used to the nice balmy weather. I would definitely need some layers- I need them here in the 60's!

Sea level: 63 degrees, mountain top 57. These were both rare events. Normal winter lows 67-70 at sea level, 64-68 on Bordeaux. Winters-- and summers -have averaged considerably higher than the former normal in the past 10 years. Wind chill is also a factor. As was mentioned, you soon get very accustomed to little fluctuation, that's why anyone who's lived here a long time will complain mightily when it's above 90 or below 70.

Not STJ but during a February trip to Virgin Gorda, the vehicle temp read 69 degrees. It was raining sidewides and it felt like 50 degrees.

we want to move! don't know If it will happen but we would love for it to happen now that the boys are both out of house. USVI is the only place we would go that's for sure!
Wind chill is a bear for us people who live in warm climates. It was 48 here in Florida last night and wind chill almost killed me!!!!!

You folks crack me up.
I don't think wind chill should be a factor unless the temp is 32 or below!

I'm a southern wind chill chicken too!! Anything less than 70 and I am chilly- I could definitely see myself in a sweatshirt on STJ from time to time

I could never live north of South Carolina! I don'even think I would like to live north of Tallahasee! Just think you polar bears... 1 person used to warm weather+ moist air+ 20-30mph winds= one suntaned icepop.

It is commonly in the mid 60's F here on top of Crown Mt. STT during the winter nights - cold enough for flannel sheets and sweat pants and socks at night - during a conversation with my daughter who lives in snowboard country now but was raised in this house, I told her it was about 68' and cold here that night - she said " Dad, do you know what it costs to heat my house to 68' here? "

I need to move

...Actually, we have one leaving the nest next year...three more years for the second, nine for the third. Maybe we can move to our favorite (and much warmer) place in about 10 years!
....hopefully
