Hi, I'm thinking about getting a Mystic Spray-on Tan. They may call it something else in your area, but it is available at most tanning salons. Does anyone have any experience? Any advice?

Hi Kelly
I went to have the Aveda spray tan at my beauty salon and it worked well. The It is best to exfoliate first and do not moisturize your skin before having it done. Moisturize often after 12 hours though. I have heard some tans make you feel sticky for the first few hours after being sprayed. If you hot tub or pool in chlorine water it will wear off fast. Swimming in the ocean did not have seem to wear it off.
I cant wait for your trip review! Hope you and Tammy have a great time!

Betty, I so wish I had an Aveda salon near me. We fly out of Memphis so, maybe I can arrange that the day before. Think I'll try the Mystic tan in the next couple of days to see what happens.
Girl, Tammy just called me and we are more excited about our trip than ever. Now, we are trying to narrow down the details of when we are all going to meet in Memphis the evening before our 6 am flight!

I've done Mystic Tan several times. It's actually pretty great! Each time I've done 3 applications, one every other day, and I've used the Level 2 color (I'm pretty pale otherwise).
They show you everything beforehand but yes, definitely exfoliate before- especially knees, elbows, etc. They should supply you with "barrier cream" which you put on your knees, elbows, feet and hands so there's no dark spots. You put your hair in a shower cap, too. It's pretty easy- just step into the booth, close the door, face forward first, push the button, hold your arms out from your body and it sprays for something like 12 seconds, I think. Then, you have a few seconds to turn around and it sprays again. When you get out, you dry yourself off with a towel really well and then you can dress and go about your day. The only thing you can't do is shower, swim or sweat for something like 12 hours after.
My "tans" from doing the three applications usually last about a week. I've only done this before sunny vacations, though, so I'm sure I had a little maintenence help with getting some sun! Also, spending a lot of time in ca pool will lessen the time it lasts.

I did the spray-on tan today to see if I'd like it. Was wrong about the name. The one available in my area is called "Cabana Mist". It's been an hour or two and I think it is going to work out well. They said the color I wake up tomorrow will be the tan I have. It looks good now. Felt really sticky afterwards and noticed it was inside my nose. Was worried about my face, but I think it looks good. Thank you guys for your suggestions!

What is scary, is that I considered doing that.
I'm going to get it done again, because it looks great on my face. My hands are a little dark (they remind me of when my dad worked in an oil rig in Oklahoma)
You'll get to see after pictures from our trip reports.
I told my husband, "You need to do this".
He is so sweet. He said, "Maybe next time we go to St John." This his kind way of saying "he!!, no"
At least he's taken his boots off and is using his Keens (which he loves by the way).
