This has been asked a million times but.....what really is the best and not hugely expensive underwater video camera? I've always taken stills with a cheapo underwater camera but next year I want to take a turtle video to cherish forever.

Going to be trying out my Gopro HD on STJ in a month. Will certainly put up some video and stills for people to look at when we return.

They are known for sports video, but I've always wondered how they'd do snorkeling. I look forward to seeing what you get.

I've used it in a variety of ways the past 6 months, Boogie boarding in the waves, in the swimming pool with the kids. Timelapse. Only issue I've really seen is the curved lens housing is not as crisp underwater. But there is a flat lens replacement kit you can get that fixes that (ordered). And the fact that is a really wide angle. You have to get closer than you think.. It also works really well to if you let it take a pic every so often, just let it run, you get some great unexpected images.
Going to give it a shot, it's small, light and pretty much bomb proof.

Do you mean the Eye Of Mine housing? Looks like it works well and fixes the blur effect.

@ BRY, I have the HD hero version. Records video in 1080p / 960p / 720p HD resolutions record at 30 and 60 frames per second (60 fps in 720p), as well as takes still photos. The other model only does 960p and doesn't have 60 fps option, It also doesn't have the expansion bus on the back for the additional battery pac and the LCD screen (which is very handy for framing up a shot).
I've seen the eye of mine attachment, but there is another option that is a replacement lens for the housing. Instead of the whole housing package. I know that Gopro is working on a solution for it. There are some other 3rd party lenses as well. I have an extra wrist housing that is going to get the flat lens.
We'll see and give a full report once we are back.
