Is an hour and 15 minutes a long enough layover in Atlanta?

Yes but just.
Have had a number of tight connections at ATL but always seems to work.
We try to take a flight to ATL that allows that flight to cancel - take the next flight and still make our important flight to STT. But flying out of DC area makes that easier for sure.
If you can arrange a longer layover its a OK airport to spend a bit of time - but as said we have made three or four 60 minute connections in a row.....

My answer is...it might not be...but it also might be.
I've done a 54 minute connection before. Mind you, I was sweating it the whole time, but it can be done.
The "good thing" about ATL is that usually if one flight is delayed, everything is delayed. Which, coincidentally, is also the worst thing about ATL. But, it comes in handy at times.
I wouldn't want to dawdle, but you can make it. Just don't sit in first class, drink too much, and then ride the monorail-thing the wrong way. that's never good.

I make one hour layovers in Atlanta on a regular basis. In fact, I have one tomorrow morning that will be :53. It's OK if the weather is good.

Been doing it for 20+ years. Don't waste time, but never missed a connection.

diana, unless you are doing something unusual you will be doing the delta 10 am nonstop atl to stt. that flt has a very high percentage of on time dept/arr but unless your arriving flt is delayed you should make easliy since it's max of 20 min between gates (unless you must clear customs at international conc e). morning connections usually much better than late afternoon (think return) when things sometimes get mucked up.
the flt always depts a gate on concourse A near entrance/exit to tranportation tunnel escalators so even if you arrive near end of another concourse, you will be in great shape. if you are coming in on delta, there will be a flt board as you exit gateway with gate info on the stt flt and you will likely arrive at concourse a or b (unless flt is a regional jet then think dtw) and "mon, no problem".
enjoy.

I've never flown Delta so I'm not familiar with Atlanta's airport. We will be coming in on a reginal flight from Grand Rapids, MI so I'm sure we'll be changing concourses.

Diana - ATL is my home airport. Which airline are you flying from MI to ATL? If it's Delta, you'll likely either arrive in Concourse A or B (maybe the T-gates, but I doubt it). In my experience, the 10:00am STT flight usually leaves from Concourse B... I think. Maybe A. I'm really pregnant, so my brain isn't working fully. At any rate, the STT flight does NOT depart from the international concourse.
Just ask how to get to the correct gate when you get off of your regional flight and save yourself time. I know the airport like the back of my hand, but it's confusing for those who don't travel through ATL often. Luckily, lots of people do, so you'll have plenty of people willing to help!

Diana,
We've done the ATL - GRR connection before (twice, I think) and made it both times. Delayed leaving GRR once, but the other flights in ATL were a bit delayed too.
When are you going? I love the islands in Feb/March. That mid-winter escape is exactly what I need that time of year.

Since our whole family will be along for this trip (granddaughter is a first grader), we are going in June. Knowing the trip is coming gets me through the long dark winter days though.
