After we spent two long days driving to the airport and then getting to STJ, we woke up on Tues. morning to a brilliant sunrise. There is nothing like sitting on the deck of our house and watching the sun come up while drinking a cup of Kiss of the Jumbie coffee. We decide it is a beach day and head down to Maho. The water was warm and there was no one else on the beach. This was definitely rewarding for the hassle of getting there. The island was very quiet and I would definitely chance a storm to be down there when it is so empty. We went to Skinny’s for lunch then lounged in the pool for another few hours. Life is tough! We had dinner at home and then in usual fashion feel asleep around 8:30. Wednesday was a repeat with beach in the morning and pool in the afternoon. One thing we noticed is that it was very hot and as the trip went on there was no breeze anywhere on the island. Even the natives were complaining that it was hot for them.

Thursday was travel day. We headed over to Cruz Bay to catch the ferry to Virgin Gorda. It was a beautiful day and we were sad to leave our 4 year old with Grammy and Poppy for a few days…..(ok, we weren’t that sad). The ferry ride was nice, but apparently the SPF 50 we put on was not strong enough. Both hubby & I looked like cooked lobsters by the time we got there. Once we got off the ferry we were met with the Little Dix taxi and given cold towels and water. AHHH!

Our room was ready right away even though it was 10am. We come to find out there were only 20 other people on the whole resort. Talk about a ghost town! It was great since we got great service. The people were all nice, the food was great and it felt good to lounge on the beach and order a cocktail. We just chilled our first day and took in the sights around the resort.

Friday was hubby’s big 4-0. (old fart!) :D We woke up to fresh fruit and coffee delivered to our room. We then went to breakfast and ordered a beach lunch. I must say that this was the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! We got taken by both to Devils Bay which is right next to the Baths. They drop you off on the beach with your own beach umbrella and your picnic lunch. This was a big insulated backpack that came with water and either soda or ice tea, (you could have wine as well), two small salads, cheese with crackers, a huge tiger shrimp salad sandwich (Anegada lobster is not is season now), a big container of fresh fruit and two big cookies. We went snorkeling all around the Baths and came back to enjoy our private picnic on the beach. Words can not explain how beautiful this beach was and how great the water and sand were. It was a spectacular way to spend hubby’s birthday. We got picked up around 1 and were taken back to the hotel. We relaxed for a few hours and then got ready for the private beach dinner. I will get to those details in the next post!

Lovely pictures! When we were on VG, the weather was horrible the entire time and your pictures make me want to visit again.

We had two very nice lunches at Little Dix. Did you do the spa? Our friends loved it and they are real spa snobs.

Does Caneel run a ferry between the properties? If so, when staying at Caneel, can you take it over for the day (or more?)

Virgin Gorda is absolutely beautiful and I have the exact same pictures. A funny story. We went to VG and made friends with a little chicken at Savannah Beach. She hung out with us all afternoon and we fed her bread crumbs and chips. The next year we went back and believe it or not, she was there and had 3 chicks and they spent the afternoon with us. I have pictures of both years and will try to post them if I can figure out how to do it.
