Easter Sunday
Walked down to Mass at 9:30. Got seats, but it was SRO a few minutes later. If you have never been to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, you should stop by, just to thank the good Lord that you are there!!! There is a beautiful mural painted behind the altar, island theme. the church is all AC now, but it was only a few years ago when it was all open, ceiling fans only, and the stray dogs in town would wander in and lay at your feet to cool off. I thiink those "Coconut Retrievers" have all been corraled and given homes, thanks to pet organizations on STJ.
No construction today, so nice and quiet around Lavender Hill. Decided not to beach it today...we were all pretty much fried from the last 3 days, so shopping was on the agenda and some lying around. Took the girls to hang out at the Westin for awhile. We stayed at The Westin many years ago, our first trip. We got a feel for the island, and have gotten a villa or condo ever since. could never go back to the "resort" lifestyle. While girls were at the WEstin, Hubby and I walked over to Gallows form Lavender Hill, to go for a quick snorkel. Now I don;t regard Gallows as a typical "resort". We do love it there. Stayed there 2 yrs ago. The units are just too small for a family with 3 women!!! the sun was bright and shimmering . making the underwater all lit up. It was a beautiful, late afternoon.
We were "winging" for dinner tonight. We had not made reservations anywhere, and knew that alot of people were going to be eating out. Planning on chinese take out or pizza take out. WRONG!!! Both China Shack AND Cafe Roma were closed ( Easter, remember?) Onto Starfish Market...slim pickins!!! Even all the hot dogs were out!!! Ended up with Elios frozen pizza!!!!Yum! But kept thinking of all the money we saved!!!

I will have to visit the Catholic church on my next trip. Glad to hear the doggies found a home. I remember when that church was under construction forever. Those cheap pizza dinners aren't all bad.

Great report!!

Give a lot of credit to Fr. Crespo who helped to build the church on a cash only basis. No debt. That's why it took so long. It is beautiful and the mural is outstanding. If you go to Mongoose Junction you will see the studio of the artist who painted the mural. She took over where the Clothing Studio used to be.

The church is beautiful. We were walking by on our way home from dinner one evening and stopped to peek in the windows.

A few ladies (dressed to the nines I might add, with hats!) were just breaking up from some sort of group meeting and invited us in for a tour - a nice island memory.

Thanks for the report!

Cypress, I will remember what you said about going to church when we are there in Nov. :)
Do you think we will make it after our first night on the island party?

I just want to go inside and look around; I'm not planning on a sunrise service.
