Ferry for 3:40 PM arrival

Made a last minute decision to have my son from Miami come along as both a surprise for the Twins Birthday and to lend a hand if my DH is not up to snuff. He will arrive STT on AA from MIA @3:40 PM. Think others are on that flight too.
What ferry would be best for him? Is there a 5PM downtown or should he shoot for Red Hook. He will have no checked bags but know he cant make the 4PM.
In addition if anyone sees him..40 yrs old, bald with hat or doo rag, 2 carry on's may be wearing hiking boots please introduce yourselves. His name is Art Brockway. Maybe he can share a cab or get in the same one as you.
I am telling him to head for High Tide and wait there for me I will pick him up. Should I tell him to wait at the Beach Bar?
