We are headed down Thursday! I can't believe it's finally here!
I see showers forecasted each day so what has the weather been doing? It's not constant rain is it?
Thanks so much!

We have had some on and off showers the past several days with a 40% chance today Tuesday. They only last 10 minutes more or less. I consider it a good thing to keep it from getting so hot. Was out snorkling yesterday when one came through but we were already wet so who cares. We are from Denver so the humidity here can be a little much but wow I would not want to be anywhere else. It is all good. Enjoy your trip, how long are you going to be on island? We have been here 10 days and leave tomorrow. Warning, lots of mosquitos, bring the deets! RockyMtHi2

Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark throughout most of the evening, with some widely scattered light towards morning.
Sorry – couldn’t resist. That’s an old George Carlin bit.
Don’t fret the regular forecast that almost always says 30 or 40% chance of showers for every day this time of year.
Being in the tropics, passing storms do percolate up on a widely scattered basis almost every day, especially in the summer.
Confirming the scattered nature of that kind of forecast, I believe that when it says “30% chance of showers”, it means that only 30% of the entire forecast area could have showers.
Also note that with these scattered storms that it could be raining on one side of the island and sunny on the other side. The East End of STJ gets less rainfall than Cruz Bay. And how many of us have seen the showers passing over St. Thomas in the distance while staying nice and sunny on St. John?
However, if the detailed forecast includes the words “tropical wave” or “tropical depression”, then you can have something that sits for awhile and dumps a lot of rain. Those are the kind of forecasts to worry about.
And if that kind of event happens the week before you go, then be prepared for dealing with an increased amount of mosquitos.

Great the last week and a half. Don't fret about the little pop up showers they usually leave as fast as they come in. You will hardly ever see a forcast with less than a 30% chance. The other day at Maho it poured for 10 minutes, then the sun came out for the rest of the day. It was really a good thing half the people left. I just sat in the water and enjoyed it. I love to sit in the warm ocean when the cool rain comes down, just a neat feeling.
