Capn Dan and Ruby's StJ/Lovango - day 12 (Lovango 6)
Posted: Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:22 pm
Actually I think I am a day off on our count... But who cares
This has been a fabulous day!
We were up as usual and had oatmeal with mango and yogurt with Mango for breakfast. I do love these mangos! But I have said that before. We readied our snorkel gear, got cameras and money, got dressed and sun screened up, then sat down to read as we waited for Marcie and Dan. Dan came down first to get the boat ready, and Marcie arrived about 15 min. later Eeyore and Onyx in tow. She said that she would have been down sooner but the horse just wanted to lie in the grass and she needed to get him corralled before they left or he would eat all the palm trees.
Soon we were off to STJ to pick up friends (Sue a lady who had stayed here before and is staying in Marcie’s STJ house for 3 months to write a book, Ann Marie &Dave who own Low Key, Charlie who manages Lavender Hill & his daughters, Linda & her dog, Fiona, and one other nice lady who’s name escapes me
, and Marcie’s sister, Weezie)(Hoping I got every ones name correct.
)

for our snorkel tour around St. John. I do need to put in a plug for this tour! (see the fresh post to come) It is a day tour around STJ you get to see the whole island; the first snorkel spot was Flanagan Island. (I am not sure if the snorkel spots will change) It was beautiful! (A word to the wise though this is not a beginner’s snorkel.
The current is fairly strong and I really wish I had my long fins. My short ones worked me hard. Marcie was great though and we stopped for a rest before finishing the second half of the snorkel. For those less sure of themselves, the area around the boat would be a beautiful snorkel though, and it was really calm.
) The day was just beautiful and we continued our trip on around to Miss Lucy’s for brunch.

Capn Dan was carrying in the stuff so he rode in the dingy, but several of us decided to swim in. It was really fun, and maybe that swim and the other snorkels would help us work off the food we were about to scarf down.
I had the hash and Capn Dan had the breakfast burger. EXCELENT!!! Sorry no food porn. We listened to great jazz, but more than anything had great conversation. Ann Marie & Dave are so nice. The conversation got around to diving and this is when we found out that they owned Low Key. There was some teasing about Low Key Bob that was all in good fun
( to be fare, we did find out that Bob was released just a few days after his arrest and was apparently cleared of drug trafficking), and talked about Still Waters ( the rental villa that Ann Marie owns).
http://stillwatersvilla.com/ It looks good for a time when we need 3 bedrooms.
After Miss Lucy’s we dropped them off at their house (I believe it was in Johnson Bay.) What a cool little community! There were just a few houses a jeep, some kayaks, surf boards and a donkey lying on the beach.
We continued on around and moored at a place known as the Tektite Project. As we were coming up to the mooring we noticed a dingy pulling in as well and every one in it was nude!
How funny is that! They got the dingy up on the rocky shore and ducked behind some rocks. Dan said they had to be Americans, because Europeans would not care.
Kinda hard to see, but you get the idea, and these are modest enough to post:

This was a cool snorkel. I saw lots of cool fish, Tarpon, queen angel fish, schools and schools of blues, and other fish, and even a great shot of a turtle! (Again, I am waiting for my underwater pictures to get in) I thought I would leave STJ without a decent turtle picture. One of the neatest parts of this snorkel was seeing the rock formations above the water from the water.

Riding around--- we talked about the multimillion dollar houses on the cliffs, and just relaxed. (This is becoming a theme of this trip). We dropped friends and Family at the park dock and headed back to Lovango for a quick shower and back to Cruz Bay for groceries the Beach Bar Gathering, and dinner before we had to call Marcie for a pick up.
This gathering was kind of in and out. We saw ski2play and Libby first, then we met JJ Shaw and their son, we moved up to a table and pretty soon 54b and Mara arrived, shortly after that ski2play and hubby left to drink champagne on the deck of their new house ( yes, they bought a house and we are all so jealous!
) Before we had to leave Barb Y and her contingency of women (and one man) came up. It was so great putting faces with forum names, and we did enjoy meeting every one!

We decided to go to Cactus on the Blue for supper because we had heard good things about it and it was just across the street. The food was good, but there was no breeze at our table and we were sweltering. At sunset, I ran across the road to the beach to take some good photos of the only sunset we have seen since coming.

We finished as quickly as possible and called for our pick-up. Dan arrived at the park service dock and we had a pleasant trip back to Lovango. Now for, you guessed it…
Rum and relaxation!
