Capn Dan and Ruby's StJ/Lovango - day 5
Posted: Sat Jul 02, 2011 4:24 pm
Today we woke to a beautiful clear cool morning!

I fixed breakfast of French toast laced with Cruzan Black Strap sprinkled with sunflower seeds and honey and we ate alfresco. It is amazing what you can do with what you have. It was really good!

Our beach on this day was Cinnamon. We have never been there. Hard to believe, but it’s true.
Arriving early allowed us to score a sweet spot tucked into the seagrapes, I looked around and wondered why on earth we have never been here! It is beautiful, with a nice key, and I can see tons of reefs to snorkel! We got settled and prepared to snorkel early hoping to beat any rain that might show up.

We swam around the key, which was a beautiful snorkel! We decided to go to the left, and the very first thing I see was a flash of tentacles. An octopus!
I called Capn Dan over and he got to see the eyes peering out of the rocks. That was my second octopus! I am still looking for a nurse shark, and an eagle ray. What I think is strange is that I have only seen one little turtle all week.
I attribute this to the murky water. We went back to the beach for some chill time.

I had just started to relax when I heard a heavy Boston accent as a couple were arriving and walking down the beach. Later, on our walk down the beach we meet up with a man who asked if we are Capn Dan and Ruby. It was VI on my mind!
We talked for a few minutes and discussed our trips and the snorkels we both experienced at Cinnamon. We continued our walk and came across a man who was pointing at a little black tipped reef shark just at the edge of the water. Who would have figured that my first shark sighting would be from the beach! We also passed this young man who was sleeping , face in the sand, on the beach. He stayed there for an hour or two and finally woke up and joined a vollybal game that had sarted next to him.

More shots from our walk:

When we got back to the chairs and ate our sandwiches. We then decided that it would be a good idea to get our next snorkel in as the sky was looking more ominous by the minute. This time, we went to the right side of Cinnamon and had a very enjoyable snorkel. The thing that impressed me the most was the sculptural nature of the ancient coral formations there. We saw some rather large fish, but still no turtle. It was very cloudy water though and the viability was only about 30 or 40 ft.
When we got back the beach was becoming crowded, so we decided to go on back to CV1 to relax, and shower before heading out for dinner and then on to the beach bar for the forum gathering.
Rain coming in from St.Thomas viewed from CV1:

Happy Hour at The Fatty Crab has been on my list since I have been reading about it on the forum. It did not disappoint!!! It was not what you expect. Capn Dan described it as “driving right when everyone else is driving left”. They make a lot of their condiments and juices that go into their dishes and drinks. It is a definite must do for any foodie out there. We got their barbecue sliders and meat ball sliders. The heat was just enough to compliment the dish yet not so much that it over powered it. And their Dark and Stormy was amazing!
It was not really sweet, more spicy-tart, which was a wonderful departure from the sweeter drinks that we usually have. Capn Dan’s wine was excellent but again not your standard Cabernet. They have an interesting drink list and an extensive wine list. We will be back!
It was pouring down rain when we were ready to leave, and we need to walk back to the Beach Bar for the gathering. I slipped as I came out of the Fatty Crab but did not have a bad fall as Capn Dan caught me before I went all the way down. So we walked on down to Cruz Bay in the rain. We were still a little early, and I spotted a cute child’s t-shirt, so we decided to stop in the shop just around the corner. (Word to the wise every one… Don’t wear flip flops on a rainy day!!!) I was about to enter the shop and I fell hard on my hip. I could envision a nasty bruise! The shop keeper was very nice and helped me to my feet and into the store where I could dry off and survey the damage. I was sore, but ok, so we talked a minute and then carefully headed out to the Beach Bar for the Forum gathering.
Ski to 2 play and Libby, Pat and Mr. Pat, VI on my mind and his bride braved the rain to make the gathering. Connie never made it, probably because she was on STT and did not want to risk the weather.
We took over a corner of the upper deck and propped up Libby’s knee. Ski2play and Libby announced that they were looking at houses tomorrow! We were all green!
A good time was had by all. Pat, Mr. Pat, Ski2play and Libby had not eaten and had dinner plans, so the gathering broke up and we went back to CV1 to have a drink and an early bed time. It was great gettingt to meet every body! Sorry for not remembering names...I blame the stroke
