Hi, I am planning a trip over the Christmas Holidays and wondered if anyone had been during that time. What can I expect with openings, celebrations, etc.?

Not sure about closings and such right on Christmas Day. I just wanted to say that 2 years ago we went from the day after Christmas until January 2nd & it was a wonderful time to be there! There was a ton of live music to be had on New Year's Eve. Have fun!

I'm delurking to answer this question.
My family and I have been on island for three Christmases and are planning our fourth.
Weather can be iffy, but you're in St. John so iffy is better than the cold at home! We're hearty swimmers, so we do spend lots of time in the water, even with swells and cooler temps.
It gets very busy, with the island becoming even busier the closer it gets to New Years. It's a nice time to be on island, since everything is opened again for high season. We've developed some nice traditions over the years. As for Christmas day, we spend it on a beach and eat at home so I can't speak to openings on the 25th.

"Delurking"? Is that a word?
Welcome to the forum!
Can't add much here, as we've only been on island in early to mid-December, but this year we're staying until December 24th! Woohoo. I love the whole "Caribbean Christmas" feel, and have enjoyed going to the party at Mongoose Junction, which seems to take place on the second Saturday of December. I'm guessing that'll be before you're on island. I've never felt that the swells were too much, but that may change as we're going to be there a good week later than our normal habit.
