I saw a book that I'm interested in during our last trip that's just across the hallway from Starfish Market,in the same building.
Didn't have time to pick up the book, and hope to get their phone # and maybe they'll be able to do a "pay by phone" credit card type transaction...
Can't remember the name of the place to save my life...-just next to the wine/liquor store...I think they also rent videos...?
Help!

I think it is the Book & Bean. I just looked at it yesterday. You'd think I would remember.

Do they have paperbacks, and, are they about the same price as in the States?

Also, how does one utilize the Public Library, and, do you just use/show your local library card to check out books?

Thnx!!

I can't speak for the pricing because I am not in the States often. They are very fair, they have paperbacks and have a large inventory of pre-owned books at a lower price.
The library has a collection of books for those who are visiting or for boaters. You need to have a driver's license and a WAPA bill with your local address on it in order to get a library card. The visitor collection is real good, though, and is a nice service.

Good to know that the bookstores has pre-owned books.

How does one check out books from the "visitor collection" at the library?

It has been more than a decade since I have checked out a book from the visitor collection. Best if you just go in and ask. From what I remember all you needed was a form of identification and they stamped the return date on the card pocket.

I went to the library this morning and they do not have books available for visitors to take out any more. Since the renovation of the library you can borrow books only if you have a library card. In order to obtain a library card you need to bring proof of residency. Sorry. Ronnie's Pizza has a selection of books to borrow while you are visiting. Papaya Bookstore also has a large selection of used books.

turqsea - thank you so much for checking that out for me. That went away above and beyond! :)

Not a problem Coden, I don't like giving misinformation. Amazon.com is great but it sure is nice to give our local businesses a try. Like everywhere else we on St John are feeling the pinch from a slow economy.

turqsea - my DH will be buying plenty of books while we are on island. He reads about a book a day. His 2nd home is the library. Actually, we call the library his mistress.

Sumerwaters - who is Linda and where can I find bushwacker brownies? They do sound yummy! :D
