Rick, I remember you talking about Dark & Stormies. Our neighbor just came back today from a 2 week BVI sailing adventure. He said he has fallen in love with this drink. How do you make it? I know you use a certain rum.....he would be happy if I stuck the drink recipe in his mailbox since we are out in two days. Thanks! Jan

Not Rick G, but a D&S fan.
A Dark & Stormy is made with Gosling's Black Seal Rum and Ginger Beer; bitters are optional.
Heard the new Fatty's Crab makes a mean one.

I got these off the Gosling's website:
Dark and Stormy recipe
2 oz Gosling's® Black Seal rum
8 oz ginger beer
Pour rum over ice, add ginger ale, and stir.
NOTE: You can substitute any dark or spiced rum.

Dark and Stormy #2 recipe
2 oz Gosling's® Black Seal rum
1 bottle ginger beer
1 slice lime
Pour rum into a tall glass over ice. Pour ginger beer over it. Squeeze in lime and drop slice in. Serve.

My drink of choice thanks to RickG....I have never substituted for the Goslings Black Seal because I think it has a very distinct flavor, but I can't always find Barritt's Ginger Beer, so I use Vernor's or Ale 8 (which is locally made in KY)instead and I always use lime or bitters(sometimes a bit of both!!)! Enjoy!

Our surf club holds an annual spring fling at our beach shack. This year I set up a D & S tasting:
4 dark rums: Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Goslings, Cruzan Black Strap, Bacardi Black rum (I'm partial to Kraken and Cruzan)
6 ginger beers - the usual suspects and 2 from Shoppers Food grocery: D&G and Goya. These 2 make all other ginger beers seem punchless.
Sunday morning dawn patrol was a fuzzy affair, but with 2xOH bombs and stiff offshores...priceless.

Being from upstate NY.. I prefer Saranac Ginger beer- the ginger has just the right snap for the nostrils !!
And their Pale Ale is the best !!
Planning for this February !!
