Our unplanned, spontaneous day!
I am not a spontaneous person, and this non-plan usually does not work out well for me. (trip to Chattanooga, TN for the weekend, no hotel rooms, Tennis tournament going on)
Our non-plan: leave our hotel in the general direction of the airport in Lyon, France hoping to find a wonderful bed and breakfast along the way. Upon searching on the internet most were booked, but we were hoping to run across one that was not listed on the internet.
Beautiful vineyards along the way….head back to motorway, then plan to cut across country roads toward Lyon airport…

Notice the graffiti in the background…this seemed to be a problem in several regions in France.

Maybe Vaison-La-Romaine…hard to remember:

Another little village:

We traveled through the country….but no places to spend the night…….so we kept going…..we stopped in a cute little village and had some very good margehrita pizza, and continued on….and on…..enjoyed the scenery along the way…
Also beautiful sunflower fields…

There were hundreds of bees in the field….but no one got stung…
We were getting hungry again…..and I did not think that at any point in time would I be glad to see this:

I don’t usually eat at McDonalds at home…so why would I on a European trip???? We were so hungry….and it was the only place we saw….plus their menu is a little different than ours in the States…they have pastries for dessert which are pretty good.
Very weird subject to take a pic of….But they had the cutest, tiny toilet in the restroom:

By this time we were very close to the airport….then we are at the airport and see
Hotel NH Lyon Aéroport which at this point looks very inviting…. Way more than what we had been paying per night in our budget hotels….but we were tired…and decided to stay here for the night and sleep in the next morning to catch up on our sleep. For once we did not have an early flight and the hotel agreed to let us keep our room until time to board our flight for Venice the next day.
AHH…Venice…..such a wonderful city…….and our last stop before heading back to the States…..
