Rosebay?

Newbee here! I just found this forum yesterday, after a Google search on Rosebay reviews. I tried on the other big USVI forum, but no response.

I have booked a small 1 bedroom villa for June. It is Rosebay, just outside of Cruz Bay. Has anyone stayed in this villa, or are any of you familiar with it? It is booked more than it is not booked, so I am hoping someone will be able to give me some reviews.

I know it is nothing fancy, just based on the price and the pictures, but how is it? Is it clean and well kept?

My wife and I are really looking forward to our first trip (leaving 4 kids home at Grandmas - Yeeha  ), and we just are wondering if the villa is lacking anything that we should try to bring with us.

Thanks, Joe

Hey, IA Joe. I can't really help you on Rosebay, but welcome to the forum. It's a great place to start your STJ trip!

I haven't stayed at Rosebay, but it's been around a long time. The views are great and you'll have a hot tub. I can't think of a thing you need except a few swim suits and shorts and tee. Being the first time there, I'm sure you've overpacked.

Post a report when you get back.

joe,

welcome to the board. while i have not stayed at rosebay i do have some info that might ease the "villa worry syndrome".

she's at a great location for a 1st timer, just out of cruz bay and above westin. she's on a private drive off the lower end of rockbridge which is the 1st left turn at the top of the 1st hill past the westin, so easy in & out and very convenient including to starfish market. she faces west across gr cruz bay & pillsbury sound to stt so you'll see sunset behind stt in june and then the island(stt) will light up for you.

while we have never rented thru carr villas, they get great reviews but some moaning about their 5% booking fee. i doubt they'd carry villas that don't meet a decent level of comfort so they get repeat customers. the book rate is about norm for villas that size with only a hot tub. bride and i have considered her due to west views but the queen master doesn't work for us and we have normally been able to find something in same price range. those villas have been, non luxury, clean, well equipped and comfortable as i would expect rosebay to be. it won't be the ritz (few stj villas are) nor will she be a dump.

rosebay is in a cluster of 5 villas on north side of rockridge rd at south shore rd beginning with ocean pearl and her twin (can't think op name) then there's hawksnest (that we have also considered) and then there' periwinkle, roseaby and a third similar blue roofed villa. we have driven by them several dozen times on trips to upper rockbridge villas and i noted clean well landscaped grounds but that ocean pearl and twin are just above the dumpster (thus possible noisy or smelly). the top three should be well above any problem in that regard.

a lot of folks expect luxury in accommodations for vacation. bride and i go for comfort (and villas with views, good locations and that are comfortable) and the money we save means we can return sooner. we go to stj for the privacy, the views, the water and the beaches. you'll get all that from a base operation at rosebay, enjoy!

papabou,

ps never been in june but you'll probably need bedroom ac and screen porch to help keep out bugs.

Joe,

The name of the villa which papabou could not recall is "Jasmine". I will be staying there in August with five other friends for girls week on St. John. One of my group stayed there in Janaury, and got a look at Roisebay and said it was very cute. Before our August trip turned into a girls week, my husband and I were going to rent Rosebay, and another couple Periwinkle, while a group stayed at Jasmine.

I don't know if this helps.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. Interesting that it is for sale. How does that work? If they sell it, do they keep the rentals booked? If it is still for sale while we are there, do they schedule showings for that week?

Either way, I am not too concerned. Caribbean Villas has been great to work with and I'm they will take care of us if it is sold by June. If they want to show it during our week, we will be gone most days anyway and it is just my wife and I, so we will be keeping it pretty clean anyway. Now, if the kids were coming with us, that might be a different story!

Sailorgirl, you must have the most understanding husband if you were able to turn a week with him into a girls week without him. Yikes! That would be a hard one for me to go along with.

Thanks again everyone!

He is... maybe the fact that he and I are also going in July made it a little easier :)
