I wanted to let everyone know that a memorial bench has been installed the the L'Esperance trailhead in memory of Don Adams. Don was a National Parks Ranger back in the 1970's and was the driving force behind the St John Historical Society.
His wife is a member of my knitting group in Indiana, and when Don passed away, the group bought the bench and had it shipped to St John. Many thanks to Mark Hardgrove, the Park Supervisor who was key in making this project happen. The bench is actually installed on top of the foundation of the house the Adams family lived in. (the house blew away in a 80's hurricane) It will be a great place to relax after exploring the L'Esperance trail.

Thanks for the info. My husband and I were there in February and wondered about the house that once stood there. It's always nice to learn a little more about this beautiful island and the people that contributed in some way.

Thank you to those involved in getting the bench to this site, and thank you to all the Park employees and people who had the foresight to protect so much of St. John. I will - no doubt - take a moment to relax on the bench when I'm on island later this year.
