Hello fellow forumites. I have a question about the beaches and if they are marked or not. When we were there in 09, the bigger ones were. Like Cinnamon, Trunk, etc. But often times, we just pulled over, parked and found a spot. We didnt really know what beach we were on. Are we just huge dorks or are there signs somewhere that say where we are? We wanted to hit Maho and Hawksnest but we didnt see signs.

We did go to the Annaberg Ruins and saw the beach below but had no idea how to get down there. Am I correct that Leinster/Waterlemon is below? Is that something we have to hike to or is there parking?

We also wanted to go to Francis. If I remember, we parked and then walked down a path for what seemed like forever. The walk was wonderful, dont get me wrong. It was like talking through a tree tunnel. However, we never did hit the beach? Maybe we didnt go far enough? Not sure exactly where we were on that one. We might have not even been on our way to Francis.......who knows.

If you have not seen these websites, they may offer some idea of where the beaches are located and what they look like when you are there. I am thinking that most, or all, of the VI National Park beaches have had signs.

Hawksnest does have signs and a parking lot. A lot is currently under construction at Maho.

The parking lot at Annaberg Ruins is the parking for Leinster/waterlemon... the .8 mile or so, trail goes along the water.

The book, Feet Fins & Four-Wheel Drive, offers good information for visiting St John beaches also.

There were even more markers (little but present) for beaches this past trip for some of the more hidden ones!

For Francis, if you go past the sign for the walking trail there is a parking area and restroom for Francis. (we also did the walking trail the first time but it does end at the far end of the beach!)

Be sure to buy one of those sturdy island maps when you get there. I remember thinking that I'd already bought this book, why should I spend more on a map, but we bought it and are still enjoying that map to plan our next trip. Good luck and have fun.

Where did you get your sturdy map?? I do have the book and used it last tiime, but could use a good, new map.

Most of the shops have them. I think we got our's at Ruth's place, St John Spice
