Any new gadgets for vacation? Need father's day ideas

Well, last year I got my husband the Canon underwater camera that everyone raved about on here for Father's day. He loved it and we love it! We are 24 days away from our next trip and I am looking for another cool gift for him. I was thinking of a new carryon suitcase...one that maximizes the room?? That seems a little boring. Any good ideas or new gadgets he might like for vacation?

Well, I'm not the first to do this, but here's some info regarding our last trip in May...
I went to our local Home Depot (or Lowe's, you could find one too...)
I bought one of those ac adaptors to plug into the Jeeps lighter and plugged in a small blender that we brought with us for the sole purpose of making blended drinks on Maho & Francis, our two favorite beaches.
It was awesome.
We brought a bottle of Cruzan Pineapple rum, frozen strawberry daquiri mix, and ice.
They were delicious! Hell, throw in a banana or something else to make things even more deliciously exciting!
Total cost= @ $40.00 for the adaptor & mini blender, and the memories are indeed priceless!
Hope I helped!
(they were both small enough so's not to be a burden in our checked-in luggage,by the way...)
Also check out the little shop that shares the same lot/space as Donkey Diner in Coral Bay.
We bought a terrific backpack cooler for an unbelievable price, less than $20.00, and we couldn't find one on Amazon less than $50.00...

Great question! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I already got part of it. The light SPF shirts from Lands End--he saw someone wearing one on the last trip and wanted one ever since. I noticed that Columbia had some at scheels that were nice.

ooooh, I like that one mahojim! I wonder if it would work with the regular size blender that the villa usually provides? (we are doing carryon luggage...so space might be an issue!). So just get a regular a/c adaptor that fits into your car lighter thing a ma jiggy?

iluvstjohn - I have no gift ideas, but, could you please tell me which Canon underwater camera you purchased?

Yup, the blender at whichever villa would absolutely work, but might be a little cumbersome regarding cleaning & you might have to worry about the car battery if you decide to do that!(didn't have to keep the Jeep running to use it...)
I'm guessing it might suck a little more power than the small 1-2 drink at a time Hamilton Blender that we got at Target would do.
I thought of that before we went down, and even though the clutch on the mini-blender started getting overheated, (almost burnt out after @ 15 daquiris), I found it well worth the time & effort, not to mention relatively cost-effective. Totally gave us delicious memories!
On vacation, the $15.00-20.00 easy carry on/ checked in a bag little blender was as fun as it was almost disposable.
I think the AC adaptor & blender would be a great gift idea for your Pop.
We had a picnic!
Also-after consulting with My Sweet Amy, the Cooler Back-Pack cost $15.00...
Yet another groovy B-Day gift...heck!- Keep the frozen daquiri mix in there on the way to the beach!
Wish you & yours the best vaca!

Also-
Don't forget!
You still have over 3 weeks before you land, so you could easily mail down whatever you'd like to surprise your Dad with to Connections.
Cheap, and a groovy gift to yourselves waiting for you upon your arrival!

Well, if you bought a camera last year, looks like saving money isn't an issue. In that case get an iPad.......

Are you familiar with geocaching? Its like a real life treasure hunt using gps. My husband and I recently got in to it using an app on our iPhone. Can I just say my husband is a gadget hound and loves geocaching. So you could get him a gps navigator or if you can get it on your phone you could get him some geocache gear. There are 7 caches on STJ and we have had a good time hunting them down.

Do you have stuff to go with the camera? e.g., Gorillapod, Photoshop software. Or how about a fancy telephoto lens or some filters?
