In general, do the villa pools on St. John have heaters or are they cool? We were there in April and our pool was way too cold for me (although my husband didn't mind). We had a hot tub so that was good. But I just got wondering if other people think the pools are too cold. Thanks.

Very few are heated... Water temperature depends on so many factors. The amount of sun on the pool, whether there's a constant breeze or not, and how much rain has fallen in the pool recently. Last July our water temperature was around 90 for an entire week. In January it was in the low 80's... But I've also been in a few other island pools that seem to be in the low 70's which feels pretty chilly on an 85 degree day...

Our first trip we stayed on Bourdeaux Mountain and the pool was so cold I didn't even dip my feet in to cool off. The funny thing is we chose this house over another because the company rep said the other house (on Ajax Peak) had a cold pool.

This past time we stayed in Fish Bay and the pool was definitely in the sun all day. It was warmer and swimable and much more enjoyable.

We usually go to the Caribbean in April or May and have experienced various temps in the pools. When we stayed on Gifft Hill, the pool was in the sun a good part of the day and a nice temperature. (I don't like cold pools!) When we stayed on Ajax Mtn near Coral Bay, we had tons of rain and the pool was very cold - too cold for us, so it was disappointing. Interesting question on just how do you determine if the pool will be cool. We love using the pool in the late afternoon after a day at the beach, so its an important factor for us.

Last year we stayed at Hibiscus Gardens which had a heated pool and we were in the pool all the time. After dinner we were frequently in the pool for a couple of hours with our then 2 year old. We are currently staying at a villa with a pool that is not heated and we are not using it as much. Next year we will definitely put a heated pool on our list of required amenities.

We just opened ours here in Michigan 2 days ago. It's 58 degrees Please send the sun gods! Time to crank up the heater.

We almost always go in the summer and the pool is almost always too cold for my liking. We have rented 8 different villas all over the island and only one or two pools were tolerable to me. My husband doesn't mind though.

We are staying at Casa Bueno in a few weeks and the pool is heated. Has anyone stayed there recently to comment on how the water felt? In 2007 we stayed at One Particular Harbour and the pool was heated and wonderful but I hear its no longer heated.
