ay 5

I woke up feeling 100% better but the weather was not. It was cloudy again.
We were sipping coffee and checking in on FB and the internet on our phones and reading posts that there was no power in Coral Bay. About 25 minutes later, I realized that the fans weren’t working, guess we lost power as well. We didn’t even notice.

I had a gift to deliver and we were hungry so after a quick text to Ruth to find out if my friend was in town and if JJ’s had their generator going we headed out.
My friend is Roland. Roland is a fixture in Cruz Bay. Sweeping for a few business owners, welcoming visitors at the ferry dock with his guitar or his latest costume, and generally being a good soul. I had a request to bring him a judge’s robe for Carnival so that I did. And some pop-tarts. Roland loves pop-tarts.

We couldn’t find him right away so we headed to JJ’s. They were very busy since no one else had power, so we expected a wait. We placed our order, Ruth called to let me know Roland was back so I walked over to give him his gifts.

I returned after about 15 minutes and still no food. It had been about 30 minutes by then. 45 minutes passed, 60 minutes passed and shortly thereafter we got our food. I get that that they were busy but an hour to wait for breakfast is just crazy. I used to work the breakfast shift at JJ’s and I love the place, but that is not island time.

We bummed around town, power came back on and we headed back to Harborview. We were lazy I think, the weather was not cooperating and I guess we didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

Around 1, we decided we were hungry so we headed over to Coral Bay and went to Skinny’s for burgers. I know some people don’t love their burgers, but I do. There is something about sitting at that bar, eating a Blue Burger, drinking a coconut swizzle and just being there.

I do not remember what we did the rest of the day. Maybe naps? Not really sure.

Dinner that night was LaTapa. We did not plan on eating there this trip but a good friend works there and was persistent, so we went. I am so glad that we did!

Dinner was incredible. We started with bread with sauces and olives, followed by Caprese salad, escargot, lagostinos, and scallops. Chip said that the scallops were the best he had and I would give my right arm for another order of that escargot right now. It was that good. Chocolate something for dessert, French Press coffee we headed back to Harborview too full and too happy to do anything else.

What another day without a Hot Mess??? Tomorrow will make up for it all. Trust me.

Love to see Roland happy. He thoroughly enjoys everything we send him and Ruth is so appreciative.

It was so darn good! I love the small plates, we shared everything and it was the perfect way to get tons of flavors into one meal.

The langoustines are one of my favorite things on the La Tapa menu. I've never ordered the escargot...I'll have to try it next time.

Becky- they are not typical at all and that is why I liked them. No garlic butter. It was a very light creamy leek sauce with arugala and angel hair.
I really wish I was there so I could have it for dinner tonight.
