So-
A deer ran out in front of my truck out here in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey on the way home from work tonight...a full grown magnificent animal...
man..., it was done in, as was the bumper & headlights of my truck...
My Sweetheart woke up, brought me a hand-saw to cut off the hard rubber part of the bumper that was rubbing on the tire, & a flashlight, and I saw the deer blood & hair...
Damn...
I walked back and looked at the dead doe. Don't care to get into it...
It just sucked.
I drive very slowly, folks, fyi. I have learned so much from the island of St. John, that I intentionally bring /keep it with me back here...
Man...
Lose- Lose situation.- Not sure I can drive any slower.
Second time in a year that they got me. First one ran into the side of my truck;- how can you avoid it?!?
I'm clearly one of plenty in THEIR yard...
SO SUCKS.
Hopefully next year we'll find STJ...
SO BUMMED.
Tough night. Thanks for listening.
I feel like a glob of crap about it.
Not so smiling-
MJ

So sorry for all involved; at least you weren't hurt. Ugh, I hate hitting a squirrel even and there's so many deer out here too. Unfortunately the odds are against you if you drive at night. I see people with those little whistle things on their bumpers, don't know if they work or not. Keep the faith you still might get to stj in the fall.

We're near the pine barrens, too. My husband drives a Grand Cherokee, I drive a Honda Civic. One day, he has to borrow my car. You guessed it, that's the day a deer decides to run out in front of him. I feel so bad for you. I think I'd throw up. Hope you feel better soon. Really hope you can make it back to St John.

So sorry! I live in NJ too, and I know a LOT of people that have hit deer (or have had deer hit them)- my nephew - and close girlfriend's 2 daughters- and their 2 friends for starters!!

Not sure why your post alludes to you not going to St. John in the fall (maybe I missed something)- is it because of the deer hitting your car? Insurance will cover that...It did in all 5 cases I mentioned...

Best of luck Jim!

Not much you can do to avoid stuff like that, Jim. Some things are just out of our control. Don't let it get you too down. Before you know it you'll be back on Maho with that glorious sun shining on your face.
Keep smilin' Jim!

Jim - Glad you are ok and not hurt as I am sure Amy is too! I know the damage that deer can do as I have been hit two times luckily also going very slow. My whole bumper was torn apart and that was at a slow speed. I was also lucky because at the time I was driving my husband's bigger car I had a small car. Just be glad you were not hurt and STJ I am sure will come again soon. This will be our family's first visit in July and so excited. Take care.

I hope your mood brightened after some sleep, Jim! so sorry to hear about your truck, the deer, and having to wake Amy in the middle of the night. It's a darned shame about the doe, too. I feel awful, knowing I've hurt something!

I'm glad that you weren't injured and have the mental and physical capabilities to plan (AND EXECUTE) your next trip to paradise.

Ok...
Sorry. It was late & I was a bit wound up. Feel better about it now, just needed to vent & sleep on it, I guess.
I was just mulling over the insurance deductible & cost to fix her.
I'll take care of it...
Thanks for your always kind thoughts, guys.
You are all just such a wonderful support group in so many ways!
O-Bla-Di, life goes on!
Sorry to whine-
Smiles, Dammit!!!
Jimmy

I'm sorry about your truck but happy you and Amy weren't hurt.....Now comes my preaching.
We in the Northeast need to control the deer population through organized hunts. I'm not a fan of animal killing but it's getting ridiculous the amount of property damage these animals do. We're talking millions of dollars here. They decimate people's plantings, spread Lyme's Disease...not to mention the loss of life from deer/vehicle collisions. Ok....I'm done.
