We're back on st. John five years after our first trip...too long. Some things haven't changed. I'm still being honked at far too often. This morning an elderly gentleman found more than one opportunity to blow the old horn...darn tourists.

We started our trip with flight delays in DFW and MIA. 15 minutes for a burned out lightbulb in DFW and an hour for a switch in MIA. In MIA, the pilot announced that with a little luck we would be on our way in a few moments. Aviation and luck are not a good pairing...

We hit St John by 5:30 and Greg from Courtesy was waiting for us at the dock. Stopped by Starfish for a few things and met up with Marc Miller who led us out to Sol Inclination in Fish Bay. Paved roads all the way to the villa, but steep roads all the way to the villa. We are from flat old DFW so I basically use the white knuckle driving technique on St John. I'm 42 but on St John the elderly think I drive to slow. I don't need a Jeep, I need a Cadillac El Dorado. Marc by the way is a great guy and I would rent one of his properties again in a minute.

We hit Cruz Bay this morning to try Fatty Crab for brunch. Realized we were there too early so went to Jake's instead. What a great place with excellent food, friendly service and Willie Nelson on the stereo as our background music. Excellent salsa with the breakfast burrito...tasted like being back home, only with a great view.

No cruise ships in STT so we hit Trunk Bay...love it. This is the picture perfect postcard spot and on an uncrowded day like today it is amazing. Snorkeling not so good but we'll get to better snorkeling spots in the next few days. Today it was all about relaxing on the beach.

On the way back to the villa we stopped by Deli Grotto to pick up some most excellent sandwiches...and...chocolate coconut bars...and some chocolate peanut butter bars. How can you beat Deli Grotto?

Now we enjoy the sun dipping below the hills, Ram Head to the left, Klein Bay to the right and St Croix on the horizon.

Thank you to all who have posted great trip reports and recommendations of favorites on St John. We are working on hitting as much as we can, but at the moment focused on hitting another Island Hoppin' IPA.

Hope you enjoy your stay at Sol Inclination as much as we did back in 2007. Great house, great views but the roads were not paved all the way up when we were there.
White knuckle driveway still??

When we first pulled in to the driveway I saw the parking for what turned out to be the guest house. I thought that wasn't too bad but then realized our destination was further up...straight up!

We had 3 jeeps total, and we were lucky enough to be staying in the guest house, as we were smokers at the time and were banished to the balconies below. We were fortunate to be able to park at the guest house, but had to huff and puff our way up the stairs several times a day. Each time we set out in one of the cars parked in the upper driveway and had to turn around, I thought surely we were going over the side. Finally we backed one of the jeeps up in the spot next to the house.
Have some great memories of cranking the stereo in the great room, turning out all the lights, opening the screens and dancing cheek-to-cheek under those beautiful stars.

Sounds like a PERFECT start Jost. Can't wait to hear more. Post pics too!

Hey- there's a big, and might I add, very FUN group of DFW forumites- we get together a few times a year and usually painkillers are involved- join us on the next one!!

I'm a little more than jealous that I'm in Dallas right now and you're on the rock- but I'll get over it... ;-)
