I'm so excited that I have to share that I just booked our 3rd trip to our favorite place ever! We've gone in January (quite windy and rough waters) and March (tough to beat) and are now trying September/October to compare. It's our own little taste test of which time of the year is the best.
Both previous times, we have rented a center console dinghy and also done a charter sail/powerboat trip . This time, I think we may just skip dinghy day and take a ferry up to JVD.
Any thoughts on October STJ travel? It will be our first low season trip and so I know it will be less crowded.

Have not been to STJ in Oct but went to Virgin Gorda 4 years ago in Oct. It was awesome! Obviously the weather can be dicey but we lucked out. It was uncrowded and beautiful. There were still restaurants closed, but we went in mid- Oct so most places were re-opened by then. The main concern then I think is the weather.
Others can chime in- was Oct last year the time when all the rains hit?

We love STJ in October! It is extremely lush from the rainy season and the water temperature is wonderful. Bugs aren't terrible! Last year- we had much more rain when we were there in July than we did in October, but both are during hurricane season so you never know! We will be there for the first 2 weeks-maybe we will meet up at the Beach Bar!
where are you staying?

We've had 6 fabulous sunny trips in Oct., but last year Hurricane Otto brought a 4 day downpour that forced us to stay inside the villa and just "hang with the family"

Overall, we made the best of it!
You will love the warm water, empty beaches, easy parking and many open villas to choose from! ENJOY!

Hi Lawmom,
I think we spoke last winter about the boat charter-We wanted to share but the time didn't work out.
It's quite different visiting in October vs January. The water is wonderful, parking is easy, the beaches less crowded. The only negative is that a lot of restaurants are still closed.
Each time on St John is special in its own way.
