Hi - We will be staying on Bordeaux Mt. so have heard alot about Dolphin, Starfish but not much about Lily's and Love City. I guess we can go to either just wondering how Lily's and Love City compare and can you get alcohol at either one of these stores. Thanks so much.

We stay over in Coral Bay, so we frequent both Lily's and Love City. Here's my thoughts:
• Lily's Gourmet Market is a nice little market, with a meat counter, and is stocked fairly well for all the incidentals we need (although, I must admit, we don't really cook in a lot.)
• Love City is a little sketchy from the outside, but I love going in there. The guy who owns it (or at least he's always there) is really nice, they pack a whole lot of stuff (produce, drinks, chips, bread, dairy) into that shop, and the rum is the cheapest we've found on island.
Bottom line is this. Shop at these two if you happen to be on the Coral Bay side of Bordeaux, and go to the Cruz Bay stores if you're on that side of the island. With gas prices, I wouldn't make a special trip into Cruz Bay just for grocery shopping, but if I find myself at Hawksnest, or something fairly close to "town" then I'd swing in to the bigger stores.

We made it to Lily's several times on our last trip, they had anything we were looking for, and LOTS of alcohol

To be honest- we shied away from Love City based mainly on "curb appeal", that being said - with all the positive thoughts I have since heard I will be checking it out on our next trip.

The bar at Aqua Bistro may have also been a factor that helped draw me to Lily's...

Thanks so much. I am guessing we will probably shop at either of these two stores. Our flight arrives around noon but by the time we get our jeep and get to the villa we will probably head toward Coral Bay. This is our first visit so we have no idea where everything is but I am sure our villa manager (Marc Miller) will point us in the right direction. Glad to hear there is plenty of alcohol

Don't judge Love City by its appearance. I would never go into a place that looked like that here at home, but I have to tell you that it's one of the coolest little places on St. John. They have an amazing selection of products, and great prices on booze! The guys that operate it are real nice too! :D

I agree with the previous posters. I went to Lily's my first night in Coral Bay and picked up some basics. They had everything I needed. I did go to Star Fish and Dolphin later when I was in Cruz Bay.

I have never been to Love City Market for the "curb appeal" reasons listed above, but I really need to make a point to go there next trip.

I went to Josephine's and picked up some fresh salad greens and tomoatos.

Where in Coral Bay is Love City? The only market I've been to on island is Starfish. Looks like I need to broaden my horizons a little. While we're at it, where are all the markets located?

Bry, you can't miss it, it's on your right as you're coming into Coral Bay (I think it's been repainted since I took this picture though).

Can you get your meat, chicken, etc at both Love City and Lily's. Are they both located close to each other?

Both Lily's and Love City are a right turn at the the "triangle" in Coral Bay.

As you approach the dumpters on the left, there is a road coming in on the right, look over your right shoulder and you'll see Love Citiy. Kind of behind closed gas station.

Lily's is farther along main road, along the bay. Also on right side of road. There are a group of buildings together with Lily's.

I remember Lily's having a limited assortment of meat, but cannot remember exactly what the selection was. I bought milk, cheese, bread, and similar staple items. Don't recall buying any meat there.

They guys working at Lily's were very nice.

I remember they had a lot of canned items, pasta sauces, etc.

If I were buying for my entire stay, or for a lot of people, I would probably go to one of the Cruz Bay stores, but Lily's was perfect for me to get some basics my first night on-island.

Lily's is in Cocoloba Plaza, back off the street, so look for Aqua Bistro, which is in front of the market.

This picture was taken looking back at Cocoloba after you pass it.

This was before it was painted white. I liked it when it was this way. Don't be afraid of Love City. Those "undesirable" looking rascals that sometimes hang around are pretty harmless.

JT, thanks for the picture. I liked it better pink. It looked cleaner back then, too. Still a great little place regardless of what color it is!
