Trip report 2011 STJ I'll think of a name later

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. It has been my second trip in two weeks to the cosmetic sample heaven better known as Sephora in a vain yet futile attempt to acquire the magical product which will diminish those not so fine lines appearing with increased frequency. In order to look my best, which is, truth be told, not exactly remarkable I go to extraordinary lengths. No small task any day but 2:30am on Sunday morning on April 17 after the most ridiculously stressful work week of the year and 2 (I think?) vacation prep martinis the task seems herculean. What explains this deviant exercise? You know. I know you know.

Apart from family, travel is the great love of my life and I treat preparations for thus seriously. The plan is to greet that 3:30am pick up to Boston’s Logan Airport-
A-feeling put together with the help of recently acquired o hair and skin care travel samples and a carefully chosen travel ensemble which no one but I will care about or, for that matter, notice
B- fully packed and organized forgetting nothing and
C- calm, cool and anxiety free. Is that too much to ask?

No one needs or wants to know the impossibile lengths necessary to achieve A, let alone B or C, but since recording these experiences have become not only my version of therapy but a personal snapshot of our life to which I refer when I feel time is traveling faster than necessary I’ll soldier on. Fell free to come along or simply fast forward to photos. Full disclosure; brevity is not in my DNA and Tom Wolfe I ain’t.

DAY 1

2:30 am is early for me. Even with my recently acquired Sephora stash the getting ready process is too volatile to attempt at that hour so I get the hair out of the way the night before. I’ll just have to sleep sitting up.

The big 10

In order of importance---
Samples-check
Cameras-check
Snorkel gear-check
sunglasses- check
laptop-check
cell-check
Wallet-check
suitcases- check (we have a habit of forgetting them so I promoted them to top 10 on the priority list
Vacation book selection- check Passports-check
Haven’t I seen you on the Forum bag- check
We’re good to go!

United out of Logan 5:45am on time- friendly and smooth as glass. Change in Dulles with short delay due to radio mal function and we’re on our way! Arrive in STT around 12:30 and to Rd Hook for the 2:00 ferry. Easy peasy.

Lisa from Vista picks us up and we stop by Courtesy for our car. Nice kids there. We follow Lisa to Argonauta. We stayed here years ago on a family trip with family and we were 8 and have dreamed of it ever since. Lisa is great efficient and a wealth of knowledge.

So we’re hangin at the pool thinkin about doing absolutely nothing or something. Nobody saw my sandscript. It said 99 + 2. #1 son is in college now and had to make his Monday classes so he will join us Tuesday through Sunday. Better than nothing. My brother will join us from Nashville Wednesday. Argonauta has been updated since we were here last and is great.

If you’ve ever come along on one of my trip reports you know that we’ve had our share of drama. Forgotten, lost and stolen items being the star of those shows. None of that this time I say. Knock on wood. #2 son helped with last years report but I think we abandon it somewhere along the way.

I saw your sandscript and wondered what 99 + 2 meant. It washed away shortly after I first saw it.

Great start, agent 99, but...why do we have two day 1's? Was one of them supposed to be day 2? Can't wait for the pictures, been wanting to stay at Argonata for a while now.

Oops! Thanks CariBert. I'll fix that. Argonauta is beautiful. It was nice when we stayed here in 05 but has been really nicely updated. I'll add photos tomorrow.

Awww Monday morning blues here in cold rainy Midwest. A smile replaces my gloom with a hint of a trip report to come and transport me to my favorite place. Patiently awaiting pictures!

Thanks so much! I love writing these. I just read a pm from iprof who captured our sandscript ! Thanks!

It’s Tuesday morning and it’s all good. #1 son is on the plane as we speak and will arrive from Boston this afternoon. Little bro arrives tomorrow.

Yesterday was bittersweet. I mentioned that work had been especially stressful the past week and yesterday, which would naturally be the fist full day of vacation, a couple of big things I had been working on fell apart. Nothing happens for no reason. Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are powers greater than I in charge and let go. I would have been a nervous wreck all week had things turned out differently so now I will relax. Done.

Let me tell you how great Lisa is. In the morning, before the perfect storm, I emailed her to see if she thought I would be able to find an inexpensive printer/fax on STJ so I could work from home or would I have to go to STT for that. She called me a short while later to say that she had located one at the computer store next to connections. Above and beyond. I don’t need it now because I am not working this week. At all. Done. But it was great of her to go out of her way and I really appreciate it. If I mention work one more time turn me off.

Argonauta is more beautiful than I remember. The weather is spectacular and we have not needed the AC at all. I have not seen a mosquito either. I love when our trips coincide with the full moon and this year’s does. And I remembered the tripod this time.

We aren’t taking any chances this year and lock everything up in the safe when we leave. It’s nice and big with plenty of room for laptops and the large camera and other valuables. I brought a little camera for the beach. So with the W word out of the way we locked up the laptops and Sephora samples, packed the beach bag and headed out to Jake’s for breakfast. One of the highlights of our trip the past couple of times is being greeted and entertained by Jake, the son of the owners’. But time passes quickly and our little guy is in kindergarten now, so our visit was not to be.

Here are a couple of shots from the day. We spent a few hours at Gibney then stopped by Shipwreck Landing for a snack.

Sunrise off the deck of our room and Gibney and #2 playing something. Can you imagine sitting on that beach with a towel over you head? Utes!

Coming back to Argonauta and hanging out in the pool in the late afternoon when the light is all silvery listening to Moby and Air is like a drug. I’m hopelessly and helplessly addicted. Laptops stayed in the safe all day. The only think that will be done on this one will be a TR and photos. Period.

It's crazy isn't it? My oldest knucklehead was doing the same last summer, with his chair right up against the water at Francis. All of a sudden, what he called a "rogue wave" hit him square on and soaked him and his iPod. I was laughing inside my head (haha, no games, haha), when it occurred to me that I bought that damn iPod. It was still worth it :)
