I was reading the Trip Advisor BB and came across a thread that mentioned Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford had stayed at Caneel Bay on St John. Of course I know about Kenny C but has anyone heard of other celebs there?
Signed,
A celeb gossip junkie

I know that Alan Alda spends every Christmas on St. John and the Beach Bar site has a picture of Peyton Manning hanging out there (although I am a HUGE Patriots Fan, so I am not sure that Peyton qualifed as a celebrity in my book

)

I actually thought Peyton was great on Sat. Night Live. When he's done with football, maybe he has a future in show biz.

I remember reading in one of the local papers on line that Denzel Washington was on island at some point a few years ago.
I will say this though, people are so low key there I think that everyone just likes to leave them alone and respect their privacy. Which I think is cool.
I have never and would never ask a "celebrity" for their autograph or photo -- and I've encountered many in my day.
I think my most recent one was a couple of years ago in First Class across from Joe Theisman. We ended up chatting as we waited for our respective spouses to use the restroom.
I guess I always feel sympathetic for these folks and don't want to intrude on their personal lives/time.
My only exception would be Pierce Brosnan. Damn he's a hottie and I would not just want an autograph....

We ran into Harrison Ford at Morgan's Mango. We had a reservation and he couldn't get a table. They did not recognize him and he said "I don't normally do this, but I'm really hungry, do you know who I am?" He got a table. It was the late 90s and I believe he was with Melissa Mathison. We just said hi while we waited for our tables and left them alone.
Cheers, Rick

Hmmm... you've sparked an interesting idea. My hubby is a DEAD RINGER for Nascar driver Tony Stewart. When I say dead ringer, I mean people stop him in airports and parking lots. Of course Tony Stewart has a rep for being a jerk -- and hubby is anything but. I guess next time we can play that card -- as long as we're paying cash
Seriously though I'm surprised that the hostess didn't just say, "so what? why are you more important than the guy behind you?"
Wouldn't surprise me if they did!

In no particular order of importance
Harrison Ford

Joey and Mary Jo Buttafuco
Alan Alda
Michael J Fox
Halle Berry
Sinbad (not the Sinbad that lived on STJ,the comedian)
Kelsey Grammer
Al Gore
John Travolta
Kelly Preston
I know I am missing some, there was a lot of rum drinking going on while I lived there.

As I recall, they got put in a quiet corner, behind a shrubbery up the hill(?) in back, near the bathroom. It beats round the back of Woody's. That was a lot of brain cells ago.

Keanu Reeves went sailing with Capt. Josh Doehring. Josh tells the story that Keanu asked if sea urchins shoot those long spiny things at you.

Celebes at Caneel,
I have heard through the years that Marlo Thomas, Jerry Lewis, and Jimmy Carter stayed at Caneel. Alan Alda always brings a lot of people with him during the Christmas holidays. Locals always knew when a political figure was on island as they brought their security (secret service) with them. Out of character you would see very pale, gentlemen in business suits and ties sweating profusely walking around Cruz Bay.
Somewhere in the back of my memory - in the middle seventies John Lennon or Paul McCarthy were on St. John during a low tourist month period. They walked around very freely for days, as no one recognized him. Even if they did they most likely would not care. Caribbean Calypsonians were celebrates during that period of time.

Saw the late historian Stephen Ambrose at Skinny Legs. He was one of our favorite authors so it was quite a thrill. Did not ask for his autograph. Also saw the Kennedys at Skinny Legs. It was not a big deal because I've met many of them before. Arnold was not with them!

NO surpsrise there. Sometimes I think Keanu is actually a blonde!
That is right up there with questions asked of a friend of mine who was a snorkeling instructor and first mate on a sailboat on STT:
1) Do the islands go all the way to the bottom?
and my fave...
2) Is there rum in the rum punch?

I've heard of Jimmy Buffett being at the Westin for corporate events. Also, heard about Eric Clapton's yacht being in harbor in STT.
You want to do some celeb watching head to St. Barths. I've been there done that, not intersted in going back. Just soooo not my speed!
The only celebs I can remember seeing anywhere (politicos not included - I do live in DC and work in Old Town Alex - home of James Carville) are Gloria Estefan, her husband and Jon Secada in Miami and Steven Speilberg also in Miami. Both sitings were on a spring break back in the good ole college days. Funny thing is we didn't realize that Jon Secada was there until we developed the film! Yes, we were cheesy and asked for a photo & she was SO nice!!
