Hi all,

Hope everyone is adjusting to the new forum. A little different, but I think it'll work out once we are all used to it.

My question, which has probably been asked a zillion times, is where are the best maps of St John? Are there plenty of good road maps to get once I get there? I have the book, Fins, Feet, & Four wheel drive. But a good map certainly looks like a must for my first trip.

Thanks as usual for any help.....

I have the national park service map as well as the franko map and both are nice to have. If you only want one map I'd go with the park map as it is more detailed as a typical map would be. The Franko map is more animated and has lots of interesting info on it but not quite as exact as the other. Anthony sells both in his online shop....service is quite speedy I might add!

The NPS has a good free one available at their headquarters bldg.in Cruz Bay.

I like this map, which is in PDF format from the National Park Service. You need Adobe to view it:

http://data2.itc.nps.gov/parks/viis/ppM ... map1%2Epdf

You can blow it up or shrink it down, and it does have the roads (all 3 or 4 of them!), although not any detail of the Cruz Bay roads which can be the most confusing.

Get it from Anthony

You can get the NPS Map from Anthony. Last year - I bought the combo (book/Map) and left the map in the rental Jeep. Anthony said I could buy just the map - whick I did.

Please buy them from us if you are going to buy them!

We stock a lot of maps - as some people have mentioned already.

The best St. John only map is probably the Virgin Islands National Park map by National Geographic.

The best (in my opinion) overall USVI map is the new Franko's Map of the U.S. Virgin Islands. (Ronnie and I also gave Franko a little help with this map so I am very partial to it).

There are more for sale here too.

I encourage you to buy from Anthony, too. Things ship really quickly - and you support this forum. I ordered Franko's map and it's really great.

Yes, buy from Anthony!

Hasten to add that I also bought the National Geog. map (and F,F,&FWD) from Anthony a while back, in addition to using the online PDF map I listed above. The Nat'l Geog. map is much more detailed and is very helpful. And yes, Anthony ships VERY quickly!

Thanks

For the newbies, I ordered St John Off the Beaten Track and the map combo, and it came in just a couple of DAYS! Very, very fast shipping. And now I have something to do when I don't have access to the computer.

Minde - I'd also recommend the U.S. Virgin Islands Street Atlas (see above for ordering). It's really neat, on the left page is a map and on the right page is an aerial photo of the same area (or is it the other way around?). I found it really helpful. :D

Trail Bandit Map

I'm a big fan of the Trail Bandit map, especially for hiking. I found that I used the books (purchased here, of course) in the evening to plan the coming day, but the Trail Bandit map is light and gave us all the information we needed for some great hikes.
You can get it at www.trailbandit.org. It's only $2!

ps - Minde, I'm trying to figure out when you'll be at Cinnamon Bay from your ticker, 'cause I'll be there with either 2 or 3 girlfriends from May 9 - 16. I think we've reserved one of the units in cottage 7.

If he'd only accept paypal or credit card, I'd do it. I'm terrible about snail mail.

I bought a bunch of maps from Trail Bandit for the crew we went down with this year. He even threw a couple extra in for good measure.

I just took a look at the street atlas and it looks amazing. I'll be ordering one of those.
