I tried searching this to no avail. When you take the passenger ferry from STJ to Jost, where do you clear customs upon arrival? How much time do you end up having on Jost?

if memory serves me correctly. you clear customs in the west end..and take a taxi to soggy or foxes or what have you. I think we were there before 10am....and had to be at the ferry to leave at 3pm. All in all I would say we had a good 5 hours on jost....we stayed most of it at soggy...then went to foxys....and walked to ferry....I will admit the last part is a little foggy....others will have to confirm! It was a great day!

When we were there in February we checked in on Tortola. It was a Sunday so possibly this had something to do with it. When we were waiting to leave Jost there were some guys working on a building at the dock and they said it was the customs building. Possibly it was closed for construction.

We took the ferry on a Sunday... about 1 1/2 years ago.
Left STJ at 8:30 and went directly to Great Harbor, arriving about 9. There is a small building at the end of the dock... it was blue then. We had to wait a few minutes for the customs agent to come over from the main building. Several taxis were waiting there; the drivers told us to wait for the agent.
It is a short, sandy walk around the bay thru the village to Foxys. We did that, then took a taxi over the hill to Ivans, walked the "beach walk" to the Soggy Dollar and arranged for a cab to pick us up at 2:30 for the 3 o'clock departure. We were warned not to be late getting to the dock.

ljprof nailed it. It's just enough time to get a taste of Jost, then return back to USVI. I'd prefer another 2 hours, but maybe someday we'll overnight at Soggy's hotel or Ivan's Cottages. :?

It depends - It feels like 50% of the time you go directly to Jost and clear at Great Harbor (Foxy's) and then others (depends on how many "locals" are on the ferry) you clear at Sopers Hole, Tortola and then proceed to Jost.

thanks for the info. Hoosiermommy and I will be on island later this year and plan on going to Jost for the first time. We are thinking of taking a charter so we may be able to get there earlier and stay later. we have done a day charter before but is there any more affordable way to get there earlier and leave later?

This leaves from the NPS Dock-correct? Is that where you purchase tickets too?
