always check your airline rezzies!

I bought tickets last month via hotwire for November. We were scheduled to fly home on the 21st.
It's bad but I periodically check to see if the prices have changed on my exact flight to see if I saved or lost. Well my return flight on Continental had disappeared. We booked jets specifically because my husband won't fly prop planes and now all they were showing weekdays was the connection to San Juan instead of the Newark direct flight. When I checked my own reservation I find that they have now booked me to fly out of STT to Newark on the night of the 20th and from there to Buffalo on the night of the 21st, 29 hrs later!

So I've been on the phone with various people to try and get it resolved. Still not sure what we're going to do, could cut the vacay short by a day and return on the 20th, grrrr, or get a full refund and pick completely different days and times and airlines. At least my schedule is flexible enough to do that but still, I'm guessing flights haven't gotten any cheaper since we booked.

So, always check your flights, at least we have time to make changes and we hadn't booked the villa or car or anything.

Hi Jen
Supposed to go in November. I see your countdown ticker date is coming soon, lucky you!

We fly out of buffalo and I admit to not being comfortable flying continental on their prop planes at that time of year too so that was another consideration we had to think about when we made the initial purchase.

It's always good to stay on top of the reservations; hot-wire didn't even show the change and neither did united. I had to call united since they are the listed seller even though it was via hot-wire since we are flying them on the way down.

I know it's just a day, but I hate losing a day on St. John

This is a frequent suggestion of mine to new and seasoned visitors alike.

I have ever expereinced the kind of flight juggling going to any other destination like I do with flights to STT.

You can't take ANY flight for granted and should repeatedly check your flight/reservation status every month, especially if you book well in advance like we do.

That way you have plenty of time to adjust and deal with changes as they come.

It's made even more difficult when you get a GREAT deal on a flight but then they can't seem to accomodate (or will not) you on the flight you booked by changing dates, aircraft and whatnot.

If you're too close to departure, chances are you'll have to pay ALOT more with a different airline and it's just too easy for them to just not negotiate with you since you paid a low fare to begin with and they aren't making a huge profit on your ticket purchase.

It's ever so frustrating. An every airline seems to play this game (although I have found American to be less frustrating in this regard than other airlines over the years).

Just stay on top of it and remember my motto: Stay Semper Gumby (Always Flexible).

So what's the latest that people have seen these changes come up? When can you stop checking?

Little tip...
If you get an email notification that your flight has changed, and it links to the airline's website, do not click that you accept any changes unless you're happy with the changes. If you'll lose a day, or if it's just not convenient, call them directly. This may be your chance to get a better flight, or have an opportunity to just get a refund and start from scratch. This has happened to me a few times, and I ended up with something better than my initial plans.

I only stop checking once I'm on the plane!

It's a really good idea to check with the airline directly vs just watching it through whomever you booked it through-in my case hot-wire still shows my original flights though one of them no longer exists and since they do, no email notice from them about the change.

We are going to change our travel dates by two weeks since there's a couple good usair flights/prices with Charlotte connections which we've done before and really liked.

Hot-wire told me I'd get a complete refund and they'd notify me within 72 hrs to confirm it. It's been 48 hrs and no word yet. Just holding off on making new rezs until I hear my cc has been credited.

It will all work out but I'm glad I check frequently.

We got a call at 9:00 PM the night before a 8:00 am flight. They wanted to change us to a 6:00 AM flight. We were out with friends about and over an hour away from DCA. I said no way, switch us to BWI (10 minutes away) I knew they had flights but they were over $300 more total. They took awhile but changed it & then wanted us to fly back to DCA. Huh?, no our car would be at BWI...another 20 minutes. It was great, got to stay out later & only drive 10 minutes. Those kind of changes are Great. You have to be firm but pleasant to get anywhere.

After reading some of these flight nightmares, Im starting to get concerned. We are booked the end of June with US Airways, from Denver to Charlotte to St Thomas. I have already secured villa and jeep rental. Not to mention time off from work. MAN I hope my reservation doesn't change. I checked it this weekend and all seems well. I assume I should keep checking weekly then even more as I get closer? Makes me anxious to say the least.

I have been checking ours about everyday...and knock on wood...we are still a go...We are booked with Spirit...so far so good... the only change I can see so far they have made..and they emailed about that is the flight will arrive about an hour earlier..so that was good news..I know alot dont like them..but out of all the times weve flown with them...weve only had one to change dates on us..(which I called and got it resolved..and got back on the original flight) and one delay for a cpl hours a cpl weeks ago. Hopefully my luck will hold out...:)
