$3000 car

Post by maddog »

I am planning on spending $3000 on a vehicle when I move in October. What condition of car can I expect for that ?
Any opinions?

It has been a while since I have lived in the VI, but I would say for $3,000 - not much. Cars hold their re-sale value very well in the islands, and that price range sounds pretty low to me -

We were there in January and we checked out the board at Connections and there were a few "island cars" for 2-3K Not sure what that gets you though.

If you have a car in Minnesota it might be cheaper to ship your own car down and you will know if it is reliable. Buying a $3000 car down here you don't know what you are getting.

It should be good for another 2000 miles without a service I suppose. Hopefully, with proper maintenance you would go another 1000 miles.

Just had a friend sell her Jeep on St. John. It was a piece of junk by stateside standards. She paid $3000 for it 5 years ago and sold it for $2500. It had electrical problems, floor boards were rusted clear through, seats were trashed, no back seat, no top other than a piece of plywood, etc. It ran, but that was about it.

Good luck. See you in October!
