A Day at Miss Vie's

Hi Forum Friends!

Sorry I have been absent for the past couple of days, but I am so busy (doing nothing) here on St John and in the evening when we return to our room, I'm just pooped. But will try to catch everyone up with little short blurbs . . .

A couple of days ago we headed out the East end to Vie's. Paid her $5 and went straight for the beach. There were just a couple families already enjoying the peacefulness there . . .

As you can, it really is a lovely beach, nice soft sand, lots of shade, she has a couple of floaties and lots of chairs, a kayak or two and misc. toys.

Her three grandsons were there playing and enjoying the water, the kayaks and having a ball. I would guess their ages to be 8, 11 and 14. There was a vacationing family there with three boys about the same age. We thoroughly enjoyed all of their antics and I am sure those memories will be priceless to that family.

After a couple of hours of swimming/floating and snorkeling we walked back to the snack shack for some grub. That garlic chicken and johnny cake was yummmmmy. It was a little weird to eat chicken with chickens running around at our feet.

After lunch we went back to relax and nap on the beach. We spent the entire day and plan to return again next week. She is closed on Sunday and Monday.

A couple of things to look out for there:
1. Urchins, lots of them, even in very shallow water. Beware!!! :o

2. When we returned to our Jeep, the glove box had been broken into. The door was ripped right off the hinges. There was absolutely nothing in it, in fact it wasn't even locked. Whoever, was obviously in a big hurry. (the day before we had locked the cell phone in there) Definitely DO NOT leave any valuables in your car there.

Bummer about the jeep break-in. We didn't do the beach the day we stopped by Vie's. Just had some garlic chicken and tarts. She was just the coolest lady to talk to for a while. Not to mention the mini flip-flop LOVED the chickens, goats and kittys hanging around the place. I think it was probably one of her favorite stops. We had just finished our 1/2 day of dinghying and were out joy riding.

We never could figure out her hours/days of operation so we were so excited when we saw it open that we stopped to grub even though we weren't hungry!

Just for my own information, did you leave your car unlocked, or did they actually break into the car, too? I've heard about this happening more on St. Croix, but it happens everywhere. I lock my car in my own carport at home!

CA Girl, we don't bother locking. The Jeep has plastic windows in the front and NO windows at all in the back. There is no way to secure anything other than the glovebox. NOT!
