Two ships in port - quickest route to Red Hook

According to the cruise ship schedule listed in the "Trip Planning/Getting Here/Cruise Ship Schedules" above, when we arrive at the STT airport this Sunday afternoon, the following ships will be in port:

# Summit
# Enchantment of the Seas

I know that two ships is by no means what one would consider to be a crowded port day in Charlotte Amalie. But given the fact that our plane is scheduled to land at 1:35PM and we're taking the car barge to STJ, then to the Estate Carolina area of Coral Bay, AND that I'm highly motivated to try and get there as soon as reasonably possible (since I'd like to get back to The Beach Bar by 5:00 or 5:30 to see Innervisions perform), which route to Red Hook would most likely be the one where we'd encounter the least amount of traffic congestion or other impediments?

augie,

we always go skyline drive which will let you bypass congestion approaching havensight and tutu area.

take main bayside drive from airport (rte 30; take a left at the 1st traffic light past the end of 2 lanes in each direction onto rt 35, there's a parking lot on your left at the turn & usually couple police cars there. go several blocks (through at least 1 traffic signal) to end of street and turn left on rte 35 at stop sign; you'll wind up long hill, and shortly after you pass mayfolie hotel on left, turn right at the top of hill onto rte 40; follow 40 through at least one stop sign and at i believe the second stop sign bare to right onto rte 42; follow 42 to end at horrible hard left turn onto rte 38; follow 38 into red hook and barge entrance on left just before ferry entrance. watch for chain link fence along left side of rd and turn left at sign when fence ends.

there are some nice views to south, north and east at various points along rte 40 (skyline).

goodluck,

papabou

That is the route that our taxi drivers have taken us most of the time. It doesn't feel like it's faster than going through town but it actually is, if there is a lot of congestion due to ships (or, Carnival, which is when we would always arrive).
