Couple questions....

Staying on St. John...is it better to rent car on St. John or St. Thomas?

Any suggestions for car rental agencies?

Staying a month....would cost be outrageous?

thanks!

You might consider just renting a car for the days you need it. We stayed on St. John for the month of January and rented a car for one day (from Courtesy).

If you stay within walking distance of Cruz Bay, it's very easy to do . . . unless you really need to haul stuff or someone has difficulty walking. When you want to go to one of the North Shore beaches, just grab a taxi.

Depends a lot on where you're staying, at what time of year, and how tolerant you are of the inconsistencies of some of the alternatives (hitch-hiking, walking, bus) to having a rental car.

Some of the agencies may offer a discount for a longer term rental, but your best bet would be to call them and ask.

Try Cool Breeze for your car rentals, never had any problems.

We are visiting st john for the first time as i type this......

We rented on st thomas thru discount car rental. It was so much easier, got picked up from them at the airport, got the car, took the ferry and had the joy of driving on the island.

Just a note, its not like renting at hertz back in the states nor are the roads. Its an experience that you will certainly remeember. :)

We've rented on STT from Budget 8 trips in a row and have been happy with it. We like loading up the car and getting on our way, no taxis or unloading and reloading of luggage. It is also less expensive to rent on STT (the rental itself and the car barge vs. the people ferry).

But many prefer renting on STJ because some of the companies let you park in their lots while you're in town, which can be handy.

We rent on St. Thomas for many of the reasons listed above, but we also like to spend our last day on St. Thomas with our car. The only draw back that I have is in the back of my mind I think "what if my car breaksdown on St. John?"
