We left our heavenly bed at 3:30 a.m. at the Westin near O'hare. The Spirit check-in counter was open at 4 a.m. The flights went off without a hitch. On-time departures and arrivals, new plane, I would definitely use Spirit again in the future.

We arrived in St Thomas shortly after 1 p.m. I just love the sight of that aqua blue water as the plane nears the airport. Rum punch, for everyone, "Welcome to the island!" Paradise at last.

We head to the Budget counter and before we complete the paperwork there, our baggaqe arrived, not on island time, no problem!! The Jeep we rented is a little worm around the edges, but hey, that's okay, we won't have to worry about all those little scratches and scrapes, right? They explained, there are no back windows, something about them getting stolen often, ok, no problem. There's a sticker on the dash that warns, don't sit on the seats with a wet suit or else you'll be charged a cleaning fee. What are you freaking kidding me, what's going to keep the back seats dry?!

So, off we go towards Red Hook and the car barge. A quick stop at Kmart to pick up some water and soda. When we get to RH, the car barge is waiting to load. They have cars lined up in 7 or 8 lanes, 2 and 3 cars deep. Odd, since there's only 2 lanes on the barge. DH asks another driver about this odd configuration and is told, "I don't get it, they always do it this way." So we fall in place and sure enough they quickly have all the cars back onto the barge in two single lanes. Go figure?! After all the cars are loaded, 3 really big trucks pull on. Soon, we pull out, twenty minutes and $26 later, we're on St John.

I call the owner of Sailview and tell her we've arrived and make plans to meet her at Skinny Legs. We drive out past the North Shore, I never tire of those amazing views and gorgeous turquoise water. She is waiting for us when we get there and we follow her up to Sailview, only five minutes away. She is extremely nice and it was great to finally meet her. (I will post a full review later)

We are starving and head to Shipwreck for a quick bite to eat. Then drive out to the farthest most point on the East end as the sun sets.

It has been a very, very long day. But it is great to be here on St. John.

Tomorrow we hit the beach . . .
