Just wondering if anyone has any input on the Gift Hill area? Good neighborhood? Bad neighborhood? Pros Cons?
Thanks !!!

There are some beautiful areas off of Gift Hill Rd. The views are gorgeous from up there. There was alot of rock slides and road damage from the heavy rains on the lower portions when we were there in November. We couldn't use South Shore Rd and come up from the bottom when we were there - had to go up Centerline in Cruz Bay and then down. Depending on the specific area you are interested in you might want to ask if the road has been repaired.

We have stayed on Gift Hill the past 2 years and did not experience any problems. The views and sunsets are amazing. The drive up from South Shore Rd left me white knuckled (from holding onto the passenger side dashboard...not steering wheel) the first couple times but it is well worth the drive!

Gifft Hill is a pretty big area, but all of it is 'nice'. They have repaved most of the road, just a little left to do. South Shore has also been repaved with just a little left to do. The 'rock slide' area is still under repair, but completely passable and no trouble at all to navigate. I've lived in the Gifft Hill area for the last 3 years and enjoy it. We are still close to town, but it's less crowded (houses further apart) and tends to be quiet.

stayed in the GH area in 2007 and have wanted to go back since. It has been my favorite location so far for the views and sunsets. Just beautiful. We are finally returning to that area this year. Can't wait!

Haven't there been break-ins of homes up in the Gifft Hill area?

We stayed in the area in 2007 and had someone break in to our villa bedroom while we were sleeping. St John police told us they had a lot of trouble in the area at that time. There was some low income housing close by that they blamed. Not sure how it is now.

We stayed on Gift Hill our first trip and loved it. The view was the best we've ever had at any villa. The drive up made me so nervous during that trip and now, I don't even blink at that drive. The view of the water coming back down is inspiring!
If you've found a villa you like, book it!

We have stayed in the Gifft Hill area twice and loved it. We had beautiful views out to the ocean and over to STT. Great sunsets from the deck every evening. I like that its really close to Cruz Bay, so that we could call in a carry out order to Sogos, hubby would pop down to get it, then bring it back and we would eat on our deck overlooking the twinkling lights of STT. Its not too far from Centerline, so easy access to get to the beaches. The road down to South Shore was a bit of a white knuckle on one of the hairpin turns that had an enormous pothole right as you turned going uphill. But we just considered it part of the adventure.
Which villa are you considering?
Happy trip planning!

I haven't heard of any break ins in this area in quite awhile. Have heard of quite a few in the Chocolate Hole area though. And some in town as well.
