Confused....beach umbrellas for St. John

I read somewhere that Caneel Bay has beach umbrellas available for their guests when they visit other islands. I can't remember where I saw that though and now I can't find it.

I'm a little older and a little smarter this time around. I plan to bring tons and tons of sunscreen but I'd still like to know I'll always have shafe.

If Caneel doesn't supply this, is there somewhere else where I can buy an umbrella that will collapse down to fit in a suitcase? I google and found one source but they wanted $70 which seems a bit high.

Thanks!

Every year, on our annual STJ trek, we purchase a beach umbrella at Starfish Market or the drug store or hardware store in the same complex. They cost about $12 . Then we leave them at the villa for the next guests to use. Well worth the bucks!!!!

Suzi, great thanks! Are these umbrellas big enough for one or will we need one for each of us? That sounds like a much better option than buying the expensive on online and lugging it with us!

Chick- the umbrellas are big enough for 2 people to get under. You know the kind...kinda the "cheapie" beach umbrella model, but it does the trick. Not enough shade from the trees for everybody on the beaches.

We always buy a beach umbrella at Costco (at home) for $12, comes in a cloth case and check it with luggage at the airport..For that price we always leave it behind..

YOu can bring the umbrella with you, check on as luggage. Can you believe that my husband brings along his favorite fold -up beach chair? Comes in a bag, and he checks it in as luggage. Never enough beach chairs for everyone...
