Hi - Just curious but do the prices usually drop after the holidays. We will be traveling this summer probably flying out of EWR as the prices are better and also non-stop flights. My problem I am having is they have a flight for when we leave around 7:55a.m. but for our return flight home it leaves at 12:55 was hoping to get a later flight but the increase in price is from $382.00 to about 550.00 range. We our a family of four so that is quite a bit more money. Any reason why the prices are more money for the same day? Do they wait to drop the prices as it gets closer? If we have to leave that early I think I just might have to add another day :) Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I understood the flight prices but I will say that I prefer to leave earlier in the day.
Our flight home is usually around 4 and the hassle of packing up, returning the car, storing luggage, etc is a huge pain my a$$. I know I have to go home and I just want to get it over with. I would be thrilled with an earlier flight but I cna never get them.

I with X, I would rather get going on the day of departure for all the reasons she listed plus, in our experience, the airport is much less crowded earlier in the day.

Personally, I would grab the $382 non-stop flight now. Based on our past two trips, I wouldn't expect it to get too much lower than that.

If you book through orbitz.com, they have "price assurance" and will refund the difference if the price goes down after purchase.

Is the later flight non-stop? I was under the impression that Continental only has 1 direct flight from STT to EWR (#1883) - I'd be very surprised if they added an additional non-stop flight, especially in the summer. Flight #1883 is the one at 12:55.

Once you start factoring a flight with connections, the variables as to why the flight may be more expensive are generally based on the individual legs. If you are flying through SJU, you're flying on Cape Air, as a Continental partner, and I'm sure that right away makes the flight more expensive.

As others have said, go with the 12:55 flight. You'll get home at a decent hour, you won't have to connect and its not like you'll have all the time in the world to hit the beach in morning.

Thanks everyone - Of course - the prices went up about 50.00 today. I will keep checking. I think some one on the boards said that Tuesday is usually the day to check prices?? I want to make reservations in the next two weeks if the price stays the same. I do not want to be waiting one month before we go and have to be worried about getting a seat on the plane. Thanks for your help.
