Planning for Next Trip While on Island Time Well Spent?

This past time on St. John we spent at least a cumulative afternoon checking out housing options and planning for next year when I have 4 couples coming down to the island. I know my wife felt rushed a couple of times to meet with a Villa Rep to take a peak at one of their properties. My poll is whether or not you start planning for your next trip while still on your current visit.

I start planning my next trip before I even GET on the island for my upcoming trip. Just last week I sent an email to Gromit of a house I hadn't seen before & said ... for next time ;)

Unfortunately we are not on island same time this year!

I surely look around and try to figure out which houses look great, but doing actual tours etc .. no not yet.

I am the perpetual planner! Haven't looked at any villas while on island but maybe this time :)

I've never toured other villas while on island. We've always had great luck with the places we've chosen by looking online. There are a couple of properties I know about that I would be interested in seeing in person before renting--mostly places out in Coral Bay where I might want to check out the road up to the place, etc., but it never occured to me to try and set something up to actually tour them.

I almost always tour villas looking for the next trip's accomodation. Last spring I even took a day and took the ferry over from Tortola where we were staying to look at a couple of houses on STJ. I guess you could say I'm obsessed with finding the 'perfect' house for us. I'm actually a little nervous about this year's house because I have never set foot in it and were're there for 3 weeks!

We like to tour the neihborhoods to see what's going on and get an idea how things are changing. East End seems to be looking at some serious construction.

As far as planning the next trip during a vacation, I'm always thinking about new things to try. We do something new on every trip and the list grows faster than we can get through it.

Cheers, RickG

This February was the first trip during which we set up a time to take a look at a villa; I was convinced it would be the perfect villa for our September trip. I am so glad that we did take the time to have a look. We were able to see first hand that it was not the right villa for us. It was nothing specific....I simply didn't get good vibes and I am very much into staying some place with a strong, positive spiritual aura. I'm not referring to the Woo-Woo type of stuff  I'm talking about feelings of peace, love and harmony.
I would suggest from my own experience, that if you have a certain villa in mind for a future trip....why not have a look?....mia

In my own defense, I'd like to clarify that I get totally wrapped up in accomodations and transportation and that's where I draw the line. Once I'm there, I'm the opposite of structure and planning...

I do tons of planning pre-trip. All of this, however, is done virtually--online, guide books, spending hours on this forum! I research the things I would like to see, but I don't go as far as making an itinerary...My priorities seem to change when I visit the place in person. Once I'm on a trip, I always keep in mind ideas for the next visit, but not enough to actually go tour a hotel or villa. My vacations are infrequent--I can't afford to lose any of that precious time!

Steve, I've thought about this myself on many occasions.

Every year I intend to go visit some villas for future reference...but then once we're on island, all I want to do is lay on the beach and go snorkeling, so we never end up visiting any villas.

Each year we go I say this is the last time.I can't keep taking the food and college expenses out of my kids mouths. But every time spring rolls around and I say NO NO to my wife,I get online at this forum and start reading all about yall's trips (how about that southern yall I threw in there) and I just can't help myself and then we throw our trip together with about 3 months before we go.The anticipation of the trip is the greatest part about going to me but at the same time the wait is also the hardest thing to deal with.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I wish yall (there it is again) would quit having so much fun down there and depriving my kids of their inheritance.See,it's your fault.
